Pre-school Room Leader

Leadership and Team Management 

•  Lead, motivate and inspire the room team to deliver consistently high standards of care and education
•  Allocate daily responsibilities effectively, ensuring staff understand their roles and contribute positively to the smooth running of the room 
• Support, coach and mentor practitioners, apprentices, students and less experienced colleagues, modelling excellent early years practice
• Promote a positive, professional and collaborative team culture 
• Conduct regular room meetings and contribute positively to management and whole staff meetings
• Identify training and development needs within the team and support colleagues’ professional development
• Liaise regularly with the Nursery Manager and Deputy Manager regarding children’s progress, staffing, operational matters and opportunities for continuous improvement

Safeguarding and Child Welfare 

• Safeguard and promote the welfare of all children at all times
• Ensure full compliance with safeguarding policies, procedures and statutory guidance 
• Ensure all staff understand and follow safeguarding procedures, escalating concerns appropriately
• Ensure children’s individual needs, including medical, dietary, allergy and additional needs, are understood and appropriately supported 
• Promote children’s emotional wellbeing, independence, confidence and self-esteem through secure and nurturing relationships
• Maintain accurate records relating to children’s care, development, accidents, incidents and daily routines 
• Ensure confidentiality is maintained regarding children, families, staff and nursery operations 

EYFS Curriculum and Quality of Provision 

• Lead the planning, implementation and evaluation of a stimulating curriculum that reflects the EYFS Framework
• Create an engaging learning environment that promotes curiosity, creativity, exploration and independence
• Ensure activities reflect children’s developmental stages, interests and individual learning needs 
• Observe, assess and accurately record children’s progress, using observations to inform future planning
• Monitor the quality of adult-child interactions and support practitioners to continually improve their practice
• Ensure children’s progress is effectively monitored and appropriate interventions are implemented where required
• Support smooth transitions for children moving between rooms and into school 
• Work collaboratively with other Room Leaders to ensure consistency of practice across the nursery

Environment, Health and Safety 

• Ensure the nursery environment is safe, welcoming, stimulating and inclusive
• Complete and review risk assessments, ensuring actions are implemented promptly
• Maintain high standards of health, safety, hygiene and cleanliness throughout the room
• Ensure nursery policies and procedures are consistently followed
• Oversee high-quality care routines including nappy changing, toileting, sleep routines, mealtimes and hand hygiene
• Support the day-to-day operation of the nursery by preparing learning environments, maintaining resources and contributing to daily routines

Parent Partnerships and Inclusion 

• Build positive, professional relationships with parents and carers, recognising their essential role in children’s learning and development
• Communicate confidently and effectively with families, colleagues and visitors
• Support an inclusive environment that values diversity and ensures every child has equal opportunities to succeed
• Work collaboratively with external agencies and professionals to meet children’s individual need
