Job summary

Responsible for the day-to-day running of our room(s) within the nursery, ensuring that it is operating to the highest professional level.

To offer planned activities, a wide range of learning opportunities and daily routines that promote all areas of the children’s development in a safe, stimulating, happy and caring environment, in accordance with the Nurseries policies, and the statutory requirements.

Duties include: -

  • To help create an all-inclusive environment that values diversity and promotes open and equal opportunities for all children and adults.
  • To supervise the daily running of the room(s), working co-operatively with, and supporting all staff, volunteers, and students, as appropriate.
  • To actively encourage children’s progress in all areas of development, types and stages of play, by interaction and extension of play activities.
  • To plan and organise a programme of activities and learning opportunities, ensuring that all the areas of Learning and Development are included at appropriate developmental levels.
  • To ensure all staff are aware of their particular role and to support staff in providing a wide range of activities for the children as required
  • To be responsible for, and to oversee staff, completing paperwork for individual children, as required.
  • To ensure staff record and inform parents of an incident or accident which has occurred.
  • To ensure administrative tasks are carried out, e.g. attendance register, daily and weekly health and safety checks, medication forms, identification of resource needs etc.
  • To help to organise the key person groups and undertake a key person role with specific children.
  • To ensure that high standards of health and safety and hygiene are maintained at all times.
  • To be involved in curriculum planning, policy writing and record keeping as required
