Happy Little Sunbeams Day Nursery is a wonderful, loving, nurturing and stimulating environment in Middlesbrough, the nursery is an independent, family orientated setting, not a chain.

Staff are fully trained in childcare, first aid, food hygiene and all aspects of safeguarding and the nursery has many awards including: Millie's Mark (where all staff are trained and qualified in paediatric first aid), sendco training, disability confident, food hygiene 5 star, eatwell awards and is a breastfeeding welcome setting.

Happy Little Sunbeams is a community and family orientated establishment, providing support for families to ensure that all needs are met and signposting for support if required.

The nursery strives to ensure that all children in their care achieve the best possible start in life and works closely with parents and carers to do so. They offer full and part time care to children from birth to 13 years old with an outstanding curriculum, including teaching methods such as Monster Phonics and what’s in the bag, and lots of opportunities to learn through play.

They read to the children twice a day and share books with parents to ensure the children enjoy their books at home and can connect the two. They mark every celebration including all cultures and themes, encouraging respect and kindness for every individual. Parents are invited to support the nursery with ideas for topics and are invited to stay and play sessions and coffee mornings. The children get plenty of fresh air and outings to the local park which is 5 minutes away.

The nursery has a cook and 2 cleaners to ensure the children's needs are fully met by providing a healthy home cooked menu and exceptionally clean environment for the children to be in.

Happy Little Sunbeams has a Manager and two Deputy Managers who work hard to offer children the best early years experience.

I would highly recommend this nursery my child comes out very happy every day. They are always in contact if there are any problems and always update you about your child. The staff are brilliant and are there if you need any help or information. The staff tell you about your child's day when you pick
them up and always ask how they are when you're dropping them off. My child is always coming home with something new they have learnt that day. They take very good care of my child and would highly recommend.

Very nice, polite and understanding staff. They engage well with parents and children. The activities outlined for the children each team time are also very amazing. Good webpage to monitor children's activity in school. My child enjoys attending this nursery.

My child has been in the nursery for more than 2 years and I would say it is the best so far. The development of my child is extremely amazing. He is able to hold a conversation for long and he speaks clearly. The staffs at the nursery are very nice, patient and lovely. They listen and put all opinions
of parents into action. I will recommend the nursery to all parents who want nothing but the best start for their kids.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.962) out of 10 for Happy Little Sunbeams Day Nursery is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 44 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 44 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.962 for Happy Little Sunbeams Day Nursery is calculated as follows: ( (505 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 522 Ratings = 4.962
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Happy Little Sunbeams Day Nursery is based on 44 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 62 number of registered child places is 12.4, which has been reached with 44 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Owner/Designated Safeguarding Lead (Level 3 Early Years Educator) Joined: 2017

The nursery means so much to me and it was always my passion to own a nursery, previous to this I childminded from my home and this went from strength to strength until I had a waiting list, this prompted me to take the leap and work extremely hard to make the nursery what it is today. I have worked so hard for over 7 years to ensure that we provide the best care for all of the children we care for with my amazing team of staff. My first priority is to ensure all our children and parents are happy when they join us, we work closely with parents and carers to ensure they are as involved as much as possible in the care we deliver. I love to provide lots of experiences for the children and ensure my staff feel the same way, I have extremely high standards and my staff follow this ethos. I worked in the Probation Service for 20 years and loved working with families ensuring that I provided the best support for the families and children I worked with, this role gave me insight into child protection and managing risks accordingly. I love all of the children in our nursery and love to spend time with them, I try to provide the best resources and experiences for your children. I operate an inclusive approach and a very transparent approach to everything we do and I genuinely get upset if we fall short of anything, I am always open to suggestions and constructive feedback.

Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 2021

Hello, my name is Zoe, and I am the Nursery Manager and Health and Safety Lead at Happy Little Sunbeams. I have worked at the nursery for over four years now and initially started as a Nursery Assistant. Since my time at the nursery, I have completed a Level 3 Early Years Educator apprenticeship in which I gained valuable knowledge and skills to become the effective practitioner I am today. I am very passionate about providing high-quality care and education to all children who attend the setting, ensuring staff are aware of each child’s individual needs and learning journeys to ensure they support the children in their care in achieving their developmental milestones via effective curriculum planning, which covers all 7 areas of learning in the EYFS. I am very eager to develop my knowledge and skills and undertake continuous professional development at any given opportunity to ensure I share my best practice with the rest of the staff at the nursery. I have also completed a Level 3 Early Years SENDCo qualification to ensure the best possible outcomes are achieved for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. I am a strong believer in Cultural Capital in the Early Years; making sure the staff and I at the nursery provide quality learning opportunities to allow the children to build the essential knowledge that they need to prepare them for their future success, offering an inclusive environment, and providing valuable and enriching learning opportunities throughout each day is key to a child’s development. I also believe working in partnership with parents and the wider family is of great importance to me, developing trust and effective communication from the initial stage is paramount to a child’s development – sharing knowledge, understanding children’s interests and discovering how to best support their learning.

Hello, my name is Delta, I am a Deputy Manager at Happy Little Sunbeams and have been here for 3 years now. I have three children, and ever since I was a child, it has been my dream to pursue a job as a Child Psychologist.

Growing up, I had many babysitting jobs; I used to babysit for neighbours as well as family, and I loved it! I carried out a placement in a primary school whilst at secondary school, and after my work experience ended, I continued to attend each day for one hour for almost one year as I worked closely with a child who had learning difficulties. I used the dot-to-dot letter formation technique to support the child to write their name, and watch how proud the child was and how overjoyed the parents were. This was the moment I knew I wanted to work with children to support them to thrive in life! I love working with children in early years; encouraging and supporting them to reach their developmental milestones is very rewarding. Knowing I am part of their developmental journey is such an amazing feeling!
