The Early Years Centre at Banstead Prep serves as the starting point for each child's educational journey. The youngest students thrive in an environment that promotes independent learning through play, all within the framework of the school day.

Preschool learning takes place in classrooms specifically designed for early education, following a forward-thinking curriculum. Developed in partnership with Kingston University, this curriculum is crafted to spark curiosity, support child-led learning, and develop future skills.

Each class is led by a qualified Early Years teacher, with support from a learning assistant who provides tailored assistance, ensuring that each child is stretched and challenged according to their individual needs. Additionally, the children benefit from a wide range of subject-specialist teaching and access to the renowned facilities at Banstead Prep. The core timetable includes PE, Music, Languages, STEM, and Outdoor Learning.

The main entry point is for children who are three years old at the start of the academic year, with spaces available in up to two preschool classes, each with 16 children. A limited number of accelerated entry spots are also offered for children to join the Nursery at the start of the term following their second birthday.

By the time the children transition to Reception and beyond, they are well-prepared for the next stage of their educational journey.

Fantastic and supportive nursery. Our son loves being there and the staff are great. It's also a great transition into the prep school for those looking to go there. We've tried multiple nurseries for our two children and this is by far the best.

My daughter has been at Banstead Prep School Nursery since last March when she turned two. (Nearly a year.) Since her first day, we have been overwhelmed by the incredible kindness and enthusiasm all the staff have shown. They know all the children so well and really nurture them as individuals, helping
their confidence to grow. Our daughter goes into nursery with such a big smile on her face every day and there is an even bigger smile at the end of the day after a fantastic day exploring with her friends! We are always amazed by the range of activities the wonderful lady and her brilliant team immerse the children in - expect stories of squelching through the mud on 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' welly walks and weekly food offerings made by the children! Thank you Banstead Prep School Nursery for loving our little girl!

All the staff and children are friendly and welcoming. My son has done amazingly well there, he's very sensitive and made lots of friends with both staff and teachers alike. I highly recommend it and would send all my children there.

My eldest son joined Banstead Prep School Nursery in 2018 and is now in year 2. He has been very happy since his first day at nursery and it was a very smooth transition to reception. My youngest son has just joined nursery this September and has also had a fantastic start. He looks forward to going
in every morning and his confidence has grown already. The manager and her amazing nursery team are very nurturing and have a great way to teach the children through play. The facilities are exceptional and the children have access to the main school also. They visit the wonderful library, have PE, music and French lessons with specialised teachers. Nursery children also attend forest school and 'boogie beats' dance classes. They are encouraged to bring in a toy/book to nursery in their 'chatter bag' once per week. This has really helped both of my son's confidence with speaking in groups. I highly recommend Banstead Prep and it's so lovely to know that they are so happy and well looked after!

My eldest spent two years at Banstead Prep Nursery and she loved it. The teaches are amazing, kind and they do lots of activities with them. She is in reception now and very happy. My little one has been attending nursery school since September and I can already see the difference, she has gained experience

I cannot even begin to explain how happy my daughter is at Banstead Prep. She joined in September 2018 after being in a private nursery for 8 months. The difference in her enjoyment and overall engagement are truly noticeable. The staff at Banstead Prep are second to none and truly care about your child's
wellbeing. They genuinely take an interest in the children and this is evident in the wide and varied activities that they do. I am so grateful to Banstead Prep for all they have done to support our daughter and couldn't recommend them enough.

My Daughter started nursery over a year ago and has grown in confidence since starting. The teachers are all very caring and attentive and know her inside out. My daughter loves going into nursery and I cannot recommend Banstead Prep Nursery enough.

Both my children have been at Banstead Prep School since Jan 2019, with the eldest now in Reception. Banstead Prep School Nursery has been the most warm and welcoming environment for them both, where the teachers have catered to the individual needs of both the kids as needed. The facilities are incredible
as they have access to the entire school, and the focus on learning through play is fantastic. The teachers hold regular workshops with parents so that we understand how to bring that learning home.
For my eldest, the staff put a lot of effort into ensuring the big step between pre-school and school wasn't as daunting which meant he was so excited to be starting "big school". For my youngest, at the time of joining nursery she was one of the youngest children in the entire school and every effort was taken to make sure she settled in and was happy.

My eldest loved Banstead Nursery, she gained so much confidence and her skills developed beyond our expectations. We are so happy with the care and attention to detail the staff provide that our youngest is now joining. There is great communication between staff and parents and it feels more like a
family, which made it easier for us to leave our children in the care of the Nursery Staff for the first time. They have fantastic facilities and the ability to work with local businesses to allow for great trips and experiences that the children love. A happy environment that encourages all children of all abilities to achieve their best and enjoy learning.

We have been so impressed by this nursery. Our son was very shy before he went but has settled in so well. There are always plenty of staff and they do lots of different activities every day. He especially loves forestry school and Boogie Beats.

Hayley Compton

Job Title: Head of Early Years Joined: 2017

I’m a qualified teacher and have been working with Early Years children since 2000. I have experience with all ages from birth to five. I began my career as a Nursery Nurse and worked towards achieving my degree and EYP status in 2007. I recently trained to be a qualified Forest School practitioner and now lead Forest School adventures from Nursery to Year 2, which is a highlight of my week.


I really enjoy leading the Nursery Team at Banstead Prep, welcoming families so we can work together to achieve the best start in their children’s educational journey. I believe it is paramount for children to gain independence through learning and having a supportive team will enable them to be confident, active learners. Being part of the Senior Leadership Team ensures I also have a thorough working knowledge of the whole school and ensure that the nursery is fully considered in all school decisions.

Charlotte Bailey

Job Title: Deputy Nursery Leader

Charlotte has been working with children since 2014. During this time, she has worked with children aged from birth to five years in a variety of settings, one of which was a Forest School. She has gained much knowledge about the benefits of outdoor learning. She completed her BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Education in June 2019. She has a high level of enthusiasm and knowledge to be able to support the children within the Early Years, academically, socially, emotional well- being and overall holistic development."I am passionate about play-based learning which is a huge part of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
