Little Owls Day Nursery, Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire

Little Owls have three separate playrooms that each have their own individual outdoor play areas, planned specifically to support the age and abilities of children based in each room.

Little Owls regards all children as individuals and as such strive to work closely with parents and carers to ensure that staff know as much about a child as possible prior to starting.

The nursery is particularly keen to learn about individual needs, likes and dislikes, personal characteristics and familiar routines which all assist in supporting the children’s transition into the nursery as well as to enhance the quality of the professional relationships that develop between children and practitioners.

These professional relationships support children’s self-confidence thus enabling them to build social relationships with other children in the setting and to continue to develop throughout the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.

The aim is to ensure all children enjoy their time in the nursery and all parents and carers are secure in the knowledge that their child is receiving the best quality care and education possible.

Each room has a room supervisor/ person in charge and every child is named a key person who will liaise with you and your family during your child's first few weeks and continuing throughout their time at Little Owls Day Nursery.

The Review Score of 9.6 (maximum of 10) for Little Owls Day Nursery is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 10 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Little Owls Day Nursery in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Day Nursery / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Day Nursery receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.891 for Little Owls Day Nursery is calculated as follows: ( (107 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 119 Ratings = 4.891

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Day Nursery to friends and family?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.69 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Little Owls Day Nursery is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 11.6 positive Reviews (58 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 8 Reviews ÷ 11.6 Target = 0.690

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

This nursery is the best I have ever come across and they always put the child's needs first. I will be putting my youngest boy into Little Owls in May, they really are the best and I don't think I would ever find any better. Thank you to the staff for everything you've done for us.

The nursery staff are friendly, helpful and caring, treating each child as an individual.
We are reassured first-time parents to leave our son with them.
The nursery uses up to date internet to keep in contact with what your little one is up to on a daily basis relating this to the child's development and key skills.
It is one of the cheapest nurseries viewed but the highest standard.
Excellent.

My son has been coming to this nursery since he was 9 months old. Now 2 years old, he has improved in every single way. The girls take great enjoyment in watching the children reach every milestone. I would recommend this nursery to anybody who is worried about leaving their children to go back to work. You can call as much as you need to and raise any concerns you have they are always happy to help.
Good job girls!

My daughter started at Little Owls Nursery in September last year, a few weeks after it first opened. It was the first nursery I looked at and I knew straight away it was the one I wanted her to attend.

My daughter was a little wary at first and was upset to leave mummy but they girls where fantastic, they would calm her down and literally after 2 minutes, she would be happy after a quick cuddle which was always reassuring as a mum. Since then, she has come on leaps and bounds with talking and communicating. Her social skills are amazing - she is one clever 2 and a half year old! I put that down to the nursery.

My daughter loves it that much that she sometimes doesn't want to come home when I collect her!! The staff are great, every one of them, I can't fault them at all. They are great with the children, they work hard and are a credit to the nursery! The manager is great too, my daughter absolutely loves her and any queries I have are dealt with straight away- she also works very hard!

We have been thoroughly impressed with the level of care given to our daughter since she started at the nursery. The setting is bright, inviting and stimulating and the staff are welcoming, caring and always keeps you informed of how your child has been. There is a wide and impressive range of activities for the children to do both inside and outside. The themed learning has also been fantastic. My daughter loves going on the nature walks at the setting too. We have also been impressed with how our daughter's dietary needs have been catered for. Most importantly though, our daughter loves her time at Little Owls and always has lots to tell us!

Since joining Little Owls Day Nursery our daughter has developed in so many ways. She is a more confident, independent and balanced little girl who looks forward to going into nursery every day. Our daughter has the most amazing time at Little Owls, she has lots of fun, we regularly hear about story time and she is always singing nursery rhymes, she has also come on steadily but surely in her reading and writing ability.

The nursery itself is a fun and bright environment and we think it provides the right backdrop for more effective learning, there is a warm, supportive and nurturing atmosphere. We take absolute pleasure in logging on to Learning Journals to see what she has been up to each day.

Our daughter loves the nursery practitioners, we find them to be caring and professional and extremely approachable for parents. Our experience of Little Owls Day Nursery has been fantastic and we would definitely recommend it to others, we are so glad we chose it, thank you!!
