When looking for a nursery, we established that we wanted to find an environment where leadership was present from the top, where staff were engaging to both children and parents and where there was an overall sense of belonging and happiness and I am pleased to say that in the short time we have been with the nursery we felt that. If things went wrong, not that they often do, they were corrected. Our children have been nourished and come home happy and you can't wish for more.
Practical things that every parent thinks of:
- Great outdoor space/easy use of the beach due to proximity- Great programme for transitioning to Year 1
- Schedule full of activities - from slime to arts and crafts, the children are always stimulated through play
- Good teacher/minder per child ration - never felt that my child was being left in the care of an overwhelmed carer
- Great staff - it's lovely to see people that like their job and welcome you every day with a smile.
Our little boy joined the nursery at five months old, attending just two afternoons per week, to begin with. He absolutely loves his Loretto Nursery family and is always bubbling with happiness when we pick him up having had such a lovely time there. He was the youngest there at the time he joined, and I was a bit worried that he would require lots of attention being so young, as he could not sit up yet and was starting a habit of fighting his naps. The staff are very caring and friendly and patient, and know what they're doing and were able to give him the attention he needed, as well as the other lovely young children in their care. Even though he was very young, they helped him join in activities safely where he could, so he could learn and have fun. We're all very happy and grateful to the staff for looking after our precious wee one so well.
There are several good nurseries in Edinburgh and East Lothian and several poor ones but we have found, after experiencing several, Loretto Nursery to be the best. The staff are excellent, down to earth, lovely and above all extremely capable. My little boy runs in every morning and as a mum, I feel relaxed leaving him there because I feel so reassured that he is going to be well looked after and have a lot of fun. We are not local to Musselburgh but it is worth the drive, easy to park and the ideal Esk-side location is a treat every morning. Huge bonus is that they provide nappies wipes snacks and properly cooked meals included in the fee so all you have to focus on is your wee one, making it much easier for any super busy working mum.
Great facilities, lovely location and dedicated staff. Both our children had a wonderful time at Loretto, learning, having fun and being outdoors. Having meals provided was also a huge advantage. We were particularly pleased with how the team looked after our 2-year old daughter - she developed a lot through play and activities at nursery.
Fabulous newly refurbished building with excellent facilities. Staff are approachable and treat children as individuals, the team in the baby room have gone out of their way to accommodate my daughter's allergies. Onsite chef sets this nursery apart from others in the area.
The holiday club is not very stimulating for children p1 hence why we are not booking it this summer.
There were not enough spaces to drop off to the holiday club when the deputy manager was there and basics: like the doors had not been unlocked so several parents were stuck outside waiting to get in with their children. Therefore, the attention to detail and the simple things are missing. Other nurseries offer stimulating trips away, Spanish and French classes, coming etc. It feels like Loretto school has more interest in the golf centre whilst what they should really focus on, is the nursery.
There has been a significant improvement in organisation and communication since the new manager has taken over.
The staff are extremely kind with her and always cuddle her when she is in a mood or a little sad in the morning.
They try to go in the garden as often as possible or go for a walk along the river.
Although early days for us I feel very comfortable with everything so far and the staff have made it a much easier experience than I was expecting!!
The facilities and garden are excellent and the online learning journal is brilliant as I get to see photos of what he's been up to throughout the week. He has become much more confident, independent and chatty since joining Loretto nursery. I would highly recommend to all parents.
My 2.5 year old daughter started Loretto last summer and has been going a few days a week since, I can't recommend them enough - and have, on many occasions, advised friends to use their service. My daughter loves going and often talks about her key worker and friends she has there. Also, I can't thank them enough for their input whilst we went through potty training and it just puts even more confidence in them that they will look after her and recognises if she needs any extra support or attention whilst in their care!
We have been very happy with our decision and the level of care our daughter now receives.
Loretto is a lovely little nursery with a very caring warm feeling about it. It is very simple allowing genuine imaginative play and self-directed learning experiences. My son has recently moved from another nursery and we now have no tears when he goes in and he loves his time there. The staff are great and I love that there is an actual qualified teacher in the 3-5 room enhancing the children's learning experience and getting them used to some practices that will be used while in school.
This is a fantastic Nursery. My daughter has been attending since she was a year old and her speech and confidence has grown. She has made a lot of friends and has a good relationship with the teachers. They learn something new every day and I love that they play outside in the fresh air every day (unless of high winds) which I think is extremely important.
I'm more than happy with the care my son received at the nursery. The staff have continued to meet his pastoral and educational needs and spent a great deal of time preparing his year group for school.
Really lovely nursery. All of the facilities are beautifully clean and modern with lots of toys. Food provided is great and very much enjoyed by my little boy. Staff are all incredibly friendly. They create a peaceful, loving, safe environment for the children. Outside space is great - lovely natural space for children to explore nature.
My two year old daughter only started in the toddler room in May 2016 but I have been incredibly impressed by everything at the nursery. When she first started, I assumed she would only stay until she started at school nursery at three but now I'm looking into her staying there as long as possible.
Every staff member I have met, has been so kind and caring. From day one I have felt comfortable leaving my daughter in their care. She loves going to nursery, talking about her friends and what she does there on her non-nursery days. The small class size in her room means she knows everyone.
Her speech and social skills have come on hugely in such a short time. I really would recommend Loretto Nursery to anyone.
My child has only been attending for a few months however, in this time he has shown signs of development which I am extremely happy with. The staff are very welcoming and supportive. I have been very happy with the nursery so far.
Our son has had an extremely positive pre-school year at the Loretto Nursery. The attention to his care and education has been second to none in a relaxed, happy, cheerful, well-equipped and suitably furnished modern nursery environment a stones throw away from the Loretto Junior School campus. The dedication and enthusiasm of the staff is apparent every day with experienced, skilled nursery teaching and calm leadership clearly being key ingredients to its success. We were confident that each day we were leaving our son in safe hands and that everything was being done to prepare him for the next step - starting school. Our thanks to the manager and her team for all that they have done.
My son settled into the nursery quickly and easily, and he seems to be enjoying his time there. For me, this is the strongest proof of the quality of the nursery. If I could suggest any improvement at all, that would be include some messy play activities in the child's days.
Very happy my little girl really enjoys going to nursery and has become quite attached to the staff in her room. Management are very accommodating and do their best to support parents and children. The management team seem very hands on.
