KTB Kids Day Nursery, Dartford, Kent

KTB Kids opened in 2014 to provide high-quality childcare to professionals living and working in and around Dartford Town Centre.

Children enjoy fun activities to encourage their development, increase their confidence and to prepare them for their transition to school.

Every day, children get messy exploring their senses and get creative expressing their ideas through painting, drawing and building. They put on puppet shows or recreate stories, enjoy daily yoga sessions, read together, and the children are supported to extend their play ideas by imaginatively creating scenes, props and roles using a vast range of open-ended resources around the nursery.

The nursery is inspired by the Reggio Emilia style of childcare, an approach that harnesses children’s natural curiosity and creativity, enabling them to be driven by their interests to understand more. They have a development zone, classroom and baby room.

Child-initiated and spontaneous exploratory play are frequently and regularly encouraged. They bring the outside in, giving children natural materials to play with.

At meal times, children tuck into a wide variety of flavourful food made from local, ethical produce, to give them the best start in life. The nursery gained recognition of quality through the Soil Association where they are proud holders of the highest level of catering award.

The nursery's aim is to work in close partnership with families. As the children develop, they help and support the transitions through weaning, potty training and behavioural management.

They offer:

-        A 10 minutes’ walk from Dartford railway station
-        Care all-year-round for children from three months old
-        Daily outdoor adventures
-        Close partnership working with parents
-        Homemade and nutritious award-winning food

With a focus on:

• Natural play resources
• Creative development
• Child-initiated play
• Storytelling
• Explorative play

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 14 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for KTB Kids Day Nursery in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 11 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Day Nursery / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Day Nursery receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.733 for KTB Kids Day Nursery is calculated as follows: ( (124 Excellents x 5) + (38 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 165 Ratings = 4.733

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Day Nursery to friends and family?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for KTB Kids Day Nursery is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 8 positive Reviews (40 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 11 Reviews ÷ 8 Target Reached = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My son has been in the nursery's care from 18 months old.

He's now starting school and we'll miss KTB Kids very much. The staff are very welcoming, yet professional and the food is of a very high standard. Fees are extremely reasonable and the care and resources available are outstanding.

My little one started going to KTB since she was 10 months; she has grown from a waddling baby to a chatty little girl; all thanks to the lovely staff in KTB kids. They are very helpful, accommodating and mindful of all the children’s need. The daily activities are very thoughtfully planned - my little one took interest in cooking, arts and crafts, outdoor play and even learned her numbers and letters in the nursery setting. Finally, the quality of the food they serve is excellent and it is freshly cooked every day. I am very grateful to everyone in KTB kids for all the love and support they have given to my little girl.

My son attended KTB for almost 2 years on a full-time basis. I'm quite pleased with the care he has received at the nursery and very pleased with his development. My only concern would be the frequency on which his key person was being changed. In 2 years I believe it may have changed 5 times, perhaps even more. I found this concerning as he had to bond with someone new all over again. It seemed to get easier as he got older.

The facilities at the nursery are fantastic, it is spotlessly clean and the cook makes amazing, healthy food for them which I know will be hard to find anywhere else. They also have a very good setting for nap times and their daily updates are good. They do all sort of creative activities with the children, including cooking from a VERY young age. It is a fantastic nursery and genuinely cares about the children in their care. Staff turnover is my only concern.

Thank you for all the hard work.

The standard of care and attention to my child has always been excellent, for me that's the most important criteria. My infant child loves arriving at the nursery and hates leaving despite a long 12 hour day, her body language speaks volumes. The nursery has no outside space which may concern parents but this is compensated by trips to the park, a great way to familiarise the surrounding environment as well as play. My child has developed a wide range of skills many of which I credit the nursery. You will be hard pressed to find better in Dartford.

This is a very welcoming nursery with such lovely girls that look after my son, who has been at the nursery from 6 months and is now 18 months old. It is a second home for him and he loves to be there and even when I pick him up at the end of the day, he wants to continue playing. At pick up every day, I receive excellent updates on his day, including how much sleep he had, and how well he ate his meals. This is really useful especially for my son who practically spends the whole day and week at the nursery. I unreservedly recommend this nursery to other parents who work full time.

After originally being slightly concerned about sending my daughter to nursery I looked around a number of nurseries and wasn't happy with the large business like structure of them. As soon as I walked into KTB I knew I wanted to send my daughter there. It is a small intimate nursery with the most amazing staff. The food provided is an amazing standard and got my fussy daughter trying new food. The sleep room was also a big seller with all the children having cots or cot beds rather than a sheet on the floor like others. I now have two children in the nursery and they adapt perfectly to their very different personalities. Couldn't recommend this nursery enough but my children are extremely happy there. I think the fact that there is no outside space benefits the children as they go out on visits to the park or library every day and get to experience new things.

KTB Kids offer very high standards of care for the children. When I went back to work when my daughter was 7 months old I wanted a nursery where my children would have access to a variety of experiences as well as good quality, healthy food, both of which she gets at KTB Kids. The staff, especially her key person helped her to settle quickly and now as an active 15-month old, I can really see the difference that being at nursery has made to her growing independence and development.

This is a very good nursery, in my opinion. I chose it after visiting the majority of nurseries in the town centre. It has a very nice personnel, the girls are always smiling and caring towards the kids, the food is very healthy, most of it from organic sources. Even if the nursery doesn't have a garden, the children are taken out daily to the park, which I think is better, as it gives them the possibility to learn more about street crossing, walking at the same pace as their colleagues, also.

My son used to go to KTB nursery. He always was very happy there even in his difficult time's staff managed to comfort him. Until now he remembers all the trips to parks and really tasty lunches.
What I only would improve is to give a bit more attention on preschool children as I found my son not being ready for reception, as other children were. I believe they already improved that but at that point in 2016, they were missing that bit. Also, my son used to go there only part time and he is three lingual. Overall rating 10/10

KTB provides good child care.
We are very pleased with our daughter's key person in the nursery. Our daughter was struggling to settle down for a few months and her key person helped a lot for this to improve. Now our daughter is going to the nursery with a smile waiting for her teacher to share what happened to her. The facilities are kept clean. The nursery doesn't have outside space but it's not a disadvantage because they are taken on every day walk to the park.

As a foster parent, I have used many nursery/ preschool settings. I have been very impressed with the variety of activities and educational fun that this day nursery provides. Every member of staff is caring, knowledgeable and involved with the children. The owner is always available, as are the " hands on"nursery manager. Each day there is a handover at the end and an opportunity to discuss the day's progress or difficulties. Whilst there is no outside area, the children are always out and about everyday on park walks etc and superbly supervised. The children here are always happy and confident. I feel sure that all the needs of the children are met and would be delighted to use this facility again. I am very impressed. It has to be said that there are quite a few that I would not!!!

Katie

Katie Ballard

Job Title: Nursery Owner

Description:

Being a mum of two young boys, Katie developed KTB Kids from a passion to provide exceptional standards of nursery care.

Being a director of an established successful chain of Physiotherapy clinics throughout London and Kent, the interest in this new industry was born after experiencing first-hand the anxiety of searching for appropriate childcare services.

Katie’s eldest child was born in 2010 with a genetic disorder and a serious heart condition. Being the mum of a child with complex medical needs and global developmental delay opened the door to a range of new complex challenges. In order to fully support a child with additional needs, an understanding of a child’s typical development is paramount and then breaking this down into much smaller steps is necessary. This new knowledge sparked an interest in teaching and child welfare.

In 2012 when Benjamin’s brother was born, the reality of juggling the demands of two children was realised. Stimulating an active, boisterous toddler, caring for a disabled child, and managing the growing demands of a business led to the reality of a need to find a suitable childcare solution.

Following a period of extensive research the idea for the KTB Kids nursery was developed. Katie is now the active director for both KTB Physiotherapy and KTB Kids and is based within the nursery building five days a week. Her youngest son Henry attends the nursery with her full time.
