Farthing Wood is a friendly day nursery situated in the centre of Skircoat Green, near to the Copley site Lloyd's Banking group and the general Hospital. The nursery is owned by sisters Claire Westwood and Emma Hand and managed by Adele Carney.

Farthing Wood Nursery prides itself on the quality and consistency of care they provide. Each child in the setting will start a Learning Journey of their time and their Key Person will provide a safe, secure and supported environment to ensure your child benefits from their time at nursery.

They acknowledge that children's childhood experiences are crucial and assist them in their future transition through life. Highly qualified staff are positive role models to ensure that each child reaches their full potential.

Farthing Wood really care for my son. He feels loved and looked after. Returning to work was a wrench for me and after a negative start at another nursery, Farthing Wood totally smashed it. My son has come on leaps and bounds. After two lockdowns I was worried he had lost his confidence. He is Mr Confident
now. I cannot express how much all the staff here care about each and every individual child and meet all their needs. His dietary needs are met and thanks to the fabulous home-cooked, nutritious food, he devours all food and snacks. Even his food allergies are catered for. She is amazing!
Nappies are not changed by a clock, each child is seen as an individual. This is vital when looking for a nursery. The garden space might be small but each child loves it, a real cosy secluded space for all children to play in. There is plenty of room as they progress when ready. Amazing!

I could not have chosen a better nursery for my son to attend. All of the staff are absolutely amazing, friendly and caring. They always go the extra mile and I love the personal touches including getting their development scrapbooks to keep! My little boy is absolutely thriving and I know that is thanks
to this amazing nursery and everyone who cares for him. He comes out smiling every day and ready to go back the next. He eats incredibly well and always has a variety of healthy, delicious meals. Every day is different, they do so many activities indoors and out and they are constantly helping my child to develop and grow. I couldn't ask for more, this nursery is like a home away from home.

Farthing Wood is an amazing nursery with wonderful staff. You can tell the staff really care about the children, their needs and also the needs of parents. From starting Farther Wood at the beginning of the year, the staff have been so accommodating, welcoming and caring. My little boy has progressed
amazingly since starting there. Meals seem incredible too! They also do lots of wonderful activities every day. We are so happy with the nursery and all staff.

My child joined Farthing Wood after being at another nursery for twelve months which I was not happy with. I find the staff friendly and approachable, they go above and beyond for the children. My child has had significant improvement in all areas of learning since joining Farthing Wood.

Amazing nursery! Like a second home for my two year old. Completely trust everyone working there - class them as friends rather than nursery staff. My eight year old went too and I couldn't think of anywhere better then either.
Never had any problems with either child. Always listened to and individual

Farthing Wood Nursery have had such a positive influence on my daughter. We had a bad experience with a childminder and we were so nervous about sending her into a larger setting as she's a lockdown baby! She is so excited to go to nursery every morning and comes out full of life and excitement ready
to tell us what she has been up to! The staff are amazing! So kind and caring and really genuinely interested in the children and their families. 5 stars aren't enough to give this lovely place!

My two girls love this nursery, my eldest attended the pre-school room and now goes to wrap around care there and my youngest started in the baby room at 11 months and is now in the toddler's room. All the staff are caring and friendly and I love the home-from-home feel and the flexibility they always
do their best to offer. Both girls have always looked forward to going and the staff did a great job preparing my eldest for school. I would definitely recommend it.

Ever since our son started here he has always enjoyed going and the staff have made him feel so welcomed and at ease. The feedback when you collect your child gives a great picture of what the day has entailed and they always answer any questions we ask. Even though there was a break during the ‘lockdown’
our son settled back in quickly and the management (who were the only staff in at the time) were really nurturing, then it’s been great to get the whole staff back and he really enjoys each day with the different people working with him. He is always excited to go to the nursery and he eats so well there too! It’s a shame we can’t share the experience because of the restrictions at the moment but it will be lovely to see what he gets up to later down the line. It really feels like a home-from-home setting!

Our Daughter has been attending this nursery for 5 months and as a family we love it. She settled in straight away and she's always excited to go there. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. We're well informed on the sheet that comes home every day with what she's had to eat and drink, sleep times,
nappy changes and the activities she's done during the day. We leave her there knowing she's in safe hands and that she'll be having a wonderful time. They do lots of different activities and she brings lots of things home that she's made. We just wish that we found Farthing Wood sooner than we did! Without a doubt, our next child will also be going there. Thank you all at Farthing Wood!

My daughter has social anxiety when it comes to strangers and I was so worried to take her to nursery but I had absolutely no need to worry, she was welcomed with open arms and looked after so well that it only took her a couple of days to settle, which is a miracle in itself.
They tell me how much
she has eaten and what she’s eaten over the day so I know exactly what to give her when she gets home.
I feel so blessed to have found a nursery like Farthing Wood to send my daughter to and that I can feel so relaxed while she is there.
I could not recommend Farthing Wood highly enough for your child to go to.

Highly recommend! Farthing Wood is my little girl's second home, she is always so happy to go and has the biggest smile on her face when picked up. She has come on so much in the last 18 months and Farthing Wood have been such a big part of this. The staff are just amazing and treat her like she is

My son has been attending Farthing Wood for almost 3 years, the staff have all remained the same throughout and he has a fantastic bond with them all. He loves nursery and always has plenty to tell me after his busy day, they manage to teach through play and he has learnt so much in the time he has
spent here. I love seeing his progress through his learning journal and will miss everyone and I’m sure he will too when he leaves for school. A very loving, happy place for your child.

Due to our old nursery closing down during the covid period we needed to find an alternative and fast. Farthing Wood came up near and recommended and they didn't disappoint. They have made the transition to the nursery pleasant and pain-free. The children enjoy being there and they are well looked after.
At the end of the day, we get a report of what they have been up to and how they have eaten which is all useful info. The prices are more than fair and the quality of care and friendliness of staff is great. I would highly recommend this nursery to anyone.

Our son started at Farthing Wood when he was 9 months old and he has progressed so much in the time he has been there. My son loves it that much he has been known to shut the door on me in a morning? all the staff are lovely and provide the best care and educational needs for each child. Our son comes
home with pictures, a newsletter with what he's eaten, how long he's slept and what activities he does each day. He also brings home a journal which explains whats he is progressing in, with lovely pictures attached to the activities he's done.

We are pleased overall with the care of our son at the nursery we could not have asked for better staff to care for him in the nursery they are doing a fantastic job.

Adele Carney

Job Title: Manager Joined: 2007

Adele is the manager here at farthing wood. Adele has been with us since 2007 where she began as an apprentice. Adele was then promoted to manager in 2012. She is currently qualified to level 4 in Early Years. She has gained a breadth of experience and knowledge through various additional training courses. She updates her knowledge annually.


Adele is the designated safeguarding officer and SEN-Co-ordinator. Adele is a mum to one little boy.
