Funding & Fees
A standard day is 8.30am until 3.30pm. A session is 3 hours, either morning or afternoon and is charged at £27.95. Lunch hour is charged at £12.00 which includes two-course hot lunch. There is no additional charge for snacks, water or milk. Ballet, outdoor learning sessions, French lessons and local trips are all provided in the cost of the fees.
Parents can use Tax Free Childcare vouchers to offset against charges. Wraparound Care is available from 7.30am until 6.00pm and is free for all nursery and pre-school children who attend full-time. For children attending part-time, wraparound care is available charged at £5 for Breakfast Club (7.30am to 8.30am) and £6.80 per hour or £3.40 per half hour after school up until 6.00pm.

Our daughter transferred to Portsmouth high pre school midway through the term as we moved into the area. Whilst looking for pre schools there was no competition at all, PHS stood out to us as an excellent place for my daughter to learn and grow. We went to view it and were throughly impressed with everything and everyone. We talked to the pre school teachers- Mrs N and Mrs S who are warm and welcoming. Our daughter started and settled in really well, engaging with staff, pupils and activities immediately. The school has a great atmosphere, and most importantly our daughter enjoys every single day. What really stood out to us (when we compare to other pre schools/ nursery's) is PHS doesn't feel like a business trying to make money, the staff have a genuine passion for education and supporting the girls. We absolutely love sending our daughter to PHS.

The incredible teachers create an inclusive environment to develop confident and considerate children, catering activities and learning to what works best for the child. I have two very different kids, the teachers instinctively found what works best for each of them to make them thrive. There is constant communication between teacher and parent, they make themselves available and are approachable and understanding for any discussion/ request.
This pre-school is much more than "childcare", the kids are learning every day in range of environments, using the great facilities available to them as part of the school. Both my children developed so much during their time at PHS pre-school it is making the transition to reception a non-event.
I've absolutely loved my experience with the PHS pre-school, almost as much as my kids have!

I would describe my daughter's time there as the happiest. We always feel very confident that she is well looked after, supported, and supervised. The teachers are amazing-highly professional, incredibly caring, and always doing their best to help the girls bloom, learn with pleasure, and feel safe and valued. I cannot recommend it more. Sending our daughter to PHS preschool has been the best decision we could have made and we would highly recommend it to anyone thinking of sending their child there. Meet the Team (3)
Abi is a Pre-School teacher who started her career as an infant school teacher but found her passion teaching Pre-School age children. Her experience enables her to give the best possible foundation for each child’s learning, preparing them for school and giving them a head start.
Abi believes bespoke teaching and individual attention are key to helping each child grow in confidence and flourish at the start of their learning journey.
Pre-school practitioner Mrs Jackie Shaw has extensive experience in delivering excellence within an early years setting. Educated to a degree level in Early Years Care and Education, she has built a new nursery from scratch and also worked to achieve an outstanding inspection assessment in a well-established independent school.
Victoria is Head of Early Years and is the Reception Class teacher with many years of experience.
‘Early years education is the foundation of the learning journey and we provide a nurturing and supportive environment that allows children to flourish both socially and academically. We strive to inspire, motivate and encourage pupils to be curious about the world around them and instil a passion for lifelong learning.’
