Choosing the right Pre-School or Nursery for your daughter is an important decision.

Portsmouth High Pre-School understands each child is unique and educational plans are personally tailored to ensure children reach their full potential. The early years provide the building blocks for a child's future learning and at Portsmouth High Pre-School the teaching is structured to ensure girls receive the best possible start.

The Pre-School learning environment is split into two classrooms, one for the youngest children and the other for older girls preparing to start school in Reception Class. Children learn best through enquiry and play and highly skilled staff use a wide variety of teaching strategies to encourage independence, promote confidence and foster intellectual curiosity. The Pre-School is set in spacious grounds enabling outdoor learning to play an important role in the curriculum.

Individual care and attention from your daughter’s teacher will provide her with an engaging, welcoming and, above all, safe and happy educational environment. The aim is for your daughter to be excited and eager to learn as she moves into Reception class and then through the school, well prepared by her early years’ experience.

Both my children attended PHS nursery for the full 2 years prior to reception, I cannot speak highly enough of the experience we have had.

The incredible teachers create an inclusive environment to develop confident and considerate children, catering activities and learning to what works best for
the child. I have two very different kids, the teachers instinctively found what works best for each of them to make them thrive. There is constant communication between teacher and parent, they make themselves available and are approachable and understanding for any discussion/ request.

This pre-school is much more than "childcare", the kids are learning every day in range of environments, using the great facilities available to them as part of the school. Both my children developed so much during their time at PHS pre-school it is making the transition to reception a non-event.

I've absolutely loved my experience with the PHS pre-school, almost as much as my kids have!

I would describe my daughter's time there as the happiest. We always feel very confident that she is well looked after, supported, and supervised. The teachers are amazing-highly professional, incredibly caring, and always doing their best to help the girls bloom, learn with pleasure, and feel safe
and valued. I cannot recommend it more. The difference compared to our previous one is massive.

Sending our daughter to PHS preschool has been the best decision we could have made and we would highly recommend it to anyone thinking of sending their child there. The care, attention, support and guidance we have all received shows how genuine the teachers are and have made a remarkable difference
to her early years. Everyone who knows her has noticed and it's a pleasure to watch. We cannot thank them all enough. She has so much fun every day and always asks to go back again when she leaves for the day!

Current Review Score: 9.0 (9.000)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (9.000) out of 10 for Portsmouth High Pre-School is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.0 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 5.000 for Portsmouth High Pre-School is calculated as follows: ( (36 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 36 Ratings = 5
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Portsmouth High Pre-School is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 20 number of registered child places is 4. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 4 = 0.75
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
