Clever Cloggs Day Nursery opened in January 2005 and is registered to care for children between the ages of six months to five years old.
They offer a range of childcare options which include full time care, part time care and care for 15 and 30 hours for children through the Government Funded Early Education scheme (term time only).
You may place your child on the Nursery’s waiting list by leaving your name, your child’s name and age, your home address, email address and a daytime telephone number, so that the team can contact you when a place becomes available. Children who have siblings at the Nursery will be offered places first. Places will be offered in relation to availability for a particular age group, but the order that names appear on the waiting list will be used to determine the order in which places are offered.
Parents may visit the Nursery if they are considering placing their child at the Nursery. Visits are by appointment only as identification will be required to gain access to the premises. You must bring your child with you during your Nursery visit. Health and safety restrictions may impact the way that visits are conducted.
Once you have confirmed your acceptance of placing your child at the Nursery, you will be given details of the Nursery’s Terms and Conditions. Please note that the Nursery fees are confirmed to you when you accept your offer of a place but that the fees charged may change between the time that you accept a place and the date that your child starts. All children are required to complete a period of Settling In and this may vary based on a number of factors. Your child’s settling in period will be set by the Nursery Manager. This period of settling in is very important, it also gives parents the opportunity to meet members of the staff team and observe the Nursery’s routines, where possible.

About this price
How funding is applied, how the monthly figure is calculated.More info
- Working parents of children aged 9 months to 2 years can usually claim up to 30 funded hours a week. The working-parent hours depend on each parent meeting the minimum earnings rules and earning under £100,000 a year. This nursery stretches funded hours across 51 weeks of the year. You've selected 30 funded hours.
- This nursery applies up to 10 funded hours per day, stretched across 51 weeks of the year. With your selected funding, 22.4 hours are covered each week. Hours beyond this, including the early and late parts of the day, are charged at the standard rate.
- We work out the total cost across the year and divide by 12, so the figure shown is a smoothed monthly average. In practice, nurseries bill in different ways. Some bill monthly at this average. Others bill weekly, or charge for what happened that week or month, which can vary across the year. Confirm billing details with the nursery when you enquire.

We are so pleased to hear how much his speech, confidence and development have flourished during his time with us. Our team has loved building such a strong bond with him and supporting him throughout his nursery journey.
As he gets ready for such an exciting new chapter, we hope that we have made a positive contribution to his preparation for starting Reception in September. We are sure he will continue to thrive and flourish, and we wish him every happiness and success in his next adventure.
Thank you again for your kind words and for recommending our nursery. We will miss him very much!

As you work in education, we fully understand the importance of term-time-only care and how vital this is for educators returning to their roles in education. We are very pleased that we have been able to support your family's needs in this way. Thank you for your kind words and for placing your trust in our team - it truly means a great deal to us.

My daughter went to the nursery from the age of 2, for 2 years and she loved every minute. Her speech progressed hugely, along with her confidence in being away from home. I wanted her to join a nursery with a smaller amount of children so she could find her own voice and she definitely did that here. The staff are really caring, they encouraged her to try new foods and improved her diet. They also build strong connections with the children- highly recommend!

Watching her confidence grow and hearing how much her speech developed is exactly why we do what we do It is such a privilege to be part of these important milestones in a childs life.We are also glad that our setting helped her find her voice and feel comfortable exploring and learning at her own pace. He is now 3.5 and still loves going there. Never had any major issues. The nursery staff are great and always share positive feedback, what they did each day and what food he ate. They take the children regularly on trips to the library and the local park. They organise other outings such as cable cars or to see santa! This is such a family orientated nursery and parents get invited to various events such as mothers or fathers day. Thank you for taking such a great care of my little boy!

I would highly recommend Clever Cloggs. My child attended on a full time basis. They offer a safe and calmed environment. Expectations and boundaries are clear and consistent for children. Staff are professional and they provide daily feedback to parents. We also enjoyed a few celebrations where family members are invited to join for a 'stay and play' with the children. For the first time since my child was born, it was a relief going to work knowing my child would be happy and rested.

My son started attending Clever Cloggs back in April 2022 and he really had a tough time adjusting to this change and the routine to come with it, especially after being in lockdown for so long. Despite his struggle with accepting the change, all the staff at Clever Cloggs were so supportive of not only my son, but myself too. They made me feel like I wasn’t going crazy with the worries I had for my son, they all made me feel validated and ‘normal’ for having these worries. Once my son had become used to the nursery/routine that followed, he absolutely loved attending and, even more so, loved the staff here. He has come on leaps and bounds since coming here and I was devastated when it came to an end for my son starting nursery within a school. He had learned so much and was so happy to show/tell me what he’d done. Without the help and support from your staff, he never would have been as comfortable as he is now to attend. I owe everything to Clever Cloggs and their amazing staff.

All the staff are very caring and loving towards my son. Every time I have had to request them to do certain things for my son, they take it on board so well and always deliver, i.e administer medication when he’s been unwell etc. Overall, I am very satisfied with the quality of my son's care.
I would highly recommend Clever Cloggs to any parent. My son has been in clever Cloggs for over 2 years now and I haven’t had one issue. He has come on leaps and bounds since being in nursery. Thank you so much for your kind words about Clever Cloggs and you recommending us to your friends. We are always proud of the opportunity that parents give us to contribute to their children's early education and hope that they walk into their reception class as the confident children that we have seen grow and learn over the previous few years. As a small independent nursery, with a dedicated staff team who take the time to get to know the children and their families, we always aim to provide high-quality care and education in a nurturing environment. Thank you so much for choosing us and we wish your son all the best in the next chapter of his education.
The worst nursery, do not send your child to this nursery! They run this nursery like a back street business, very unprofessional. when you sign your original contract with them it states that they are open until 6 pm only to be called from work that they are only open until 5 pm or 5:30 pm. My...
The worst nursery, do not send your child to this nursery! They run this nursery like a back street business, very unprofessional. when you sign your original contract with them it states that they are open until 6 pm only to be called from work that they are only open until 5 pm or 5:30 pm. My child recently attended this nursery and one day he was turned away, up until this day no one has contacted me about what happened or measures moving forward which includes my son's belongings to be returned including deposits and any outstanding fees. I have emailed them yet no one replies or tries to reach out, which shows how unbothered they are and confident in their unprofessional behaviour and attitude towards the children and parents at the nursery. My child no longer attends this nursery, I would not recommend this nursery to anyone, they are the worst I have ever seen. The manager makes up her own rules as she goes along, which are all illegal. This nursery traumatised my whole family.

I am disappointed to see the review that you have left in relation to the nursery. You were provided with information in relation to the payment of fees when your son started. We had several communications with you via telephone, face to face and written in relation to the late payment of fees where you requested to pay your fees late and this was granted, even though our policy states that fees are payable in advance.
At one point you informed us that both you and your partner were concerned about your son’s eating and you would therefore be withdrawing him. You both then attended a meeting at the nursery to discuss your concerns and at the end of the meeting, you both made the decision that you were happy for your son to continue at the nursery as he had made progress in other areas since he started with us.
When your partner attended our stay and play session, he made several comments including that the session allowed him to experience the day to day activities in the nursery as he could see it through his own eyes and that he loved and enjoyed everything about it.
As a small nursery, the continual late payment of fees puts the sustainability of the nursery at risk as we do not have any other source of income and is not something that we could allow to continue.

It's 'off the beaten path', at least until Custom House Crossrail arrives in 2021. However, upon touring the inside of the nursery I was delighted by the sense of authenticity and expertise and struck by the warm and caring atmosphere. We love the no-nonsense culture imbued by senior management (30+ years experience and passionate about childcare).
NB; So much better than the corporate brands.
Trialled two big, expensive and well-known chains. We found them to be pretentious and obsequious to parents, obsessed with constant online updates that force the staff to often ignore the children and sets a bad example for screentime.
I would not recommend this nursery to working parents. It is extremely inflexible with regards to their policies and I feel it is run as a formal business rather than a care provider for under 5s.

I would not recommend this nursery to working parents. It is extremely inflexible with regards to their policies and I feel it is run as a formal business rather than a care provider for under 5s.
Most of the staff are very negative and every afternoon when they answer the door they look fed up and give you a list of negative behaviours about your child.
After half a term I have removed my child from this nursery for a variety of reasons:-punishing my child with food (not allowing her to have a Birthday cake because she was struggling with dinner)
-short notice (one night before) to remind parents about nappies/wipes. And then happy to turn you away the next morning if you forget- surely there should be some reserves in place?
After my son being in a loving full-time nursery for 5 years, it was clear how different this nursery was and I had to remove my child to give her the opportunity to get the same care he had.

At Clever Cloggs Day Nursery we offer full time and part time places to meet the varied needs of parents. We also offer term time only childcare to meet the needs of teachers and teaching assistants. We are flexible by allowing parents such as yourself have their children return early or do additional days, for example during the school holidays so that we can support their work commitments. We operate an open-door policy for all parents and invited you into the nursery to discuss any concerns, which you declined. We work closely with the local Children’s Centre to support parents who have concerns about their children’s eating. Monitoring sheets are also available each day to record what a child under the age of 2 years old eats each day. We also provide feedback to all parents each day (for example, if a child has not eaten well), which is especially important when we have concerns about a child’s eating.
In relation to the nursery not having a flexible attitude around meeting the needs of the children (providing nappies and wipes) the nursery does not use the wipes and nappies of other children as some of the children may be allergic to some brands which could cause skin irritation or other issues. We only use the nappies and wipes provided by the parent that they feel are suitable for their child. This is to ensure the well – being of the children and is part of our safeguarding and working in partnership with parent’s policy to ensure parent’s wishes are considered and the needs of individual children are met. We request all items in advance and have never asked you to bring in items for your child the next day. Parents are given ample time to purchase items needed for nursery and bring them in. If in this case you are referring to another parent/child then you would not be aware of the whole conversation or situation. This is not something the nursery would be discussing with you so I am not sure why you are making this point.
In relation to your child not having cake one afternoon at tea time, this was because she had refused to eat. The staff had tried on several occasions to encourage her to eat. The nursery even supported your child with cutlery utensils that you brought from home. We would never withhold food as a form of punishment as you implied. We always told you how your child ate each day at nursery (in conversations and on the daily monitoring sheets) so you were able to provide her with an appropriate evening meal. We had spoken on many occasions about your child’s eating but you were too busy to attend any sessions at the Children’s Centre as advised because you were a working parent. Therefore, as part of working together, I arranged for the Children’s Centre Team from Edith Kerrison to come into the nursery for a workshop at a time which suited you and enabled you to attend, which you did.
As a nursery, we have supported many of our parents and have an established working relationship with the Children’s Centre at Edith Kerrison and Keir Hardy primary school. We have at Clever Cloggs been very successful with many parents working in partnership and we have had nothing but positive praise. We have signposted parents to the Triple P Program on positive parenting, fussy eaters, toileting, transition into school, speech and language and parents whose children have additional needs, all with positive feedback and outcomes which have impacted on the learning and development of the children in our care. Through our support and encouragement, parents have informed us that their children have thrived and our support has been invaluable in preparing their children for school. We have worked closely with our Early Years Advisory Teachers who have visited us with practitioners from other settings so that they can benefit from our good practice and the environment that we provide for the children.
It is unfortunate that you have not found your experience at Clever Cloggs Day Nursery to be a positive one and we hope your child will be very happy in her new setting.
