We have 2 children at Kindred Islington and our experience has been excellent so far especially since the new nursery manager has joined the team. The manager and all the carers are very engaged and warm, and they do everything they possibly can to support us and make sure our children are happy and
thriving at the nursery. They also do amazing activities for the children every day including sports, forest school, yoga, music classes, etc. and they put a lot of emphasis on the development of the children and preparing them for the next stage. In addition to the healthy and delicious home-cooked meals they prepare. Kindred has been a home for us over the last 2 years and we're incredibly grateful for the support of the manager, all the staff, and the parent community at the nursery who helped us during difficult times including my return from maternity leave and making sure our kids are well settled.

We feel that we are part of the Kindred family. On our first visit and since then, a particular member of staff has welcomed us as parents and oriented us brilliantly with the nursery. The management, the teachers and the staff have all made us feel at ease since the first day our daughter started
at the nursery. Our daughter's key worker worked very closely with her and we couldn't have been happier with the care and attention she gave to our daughter. Her warmth and caring approach made our daughter feel at home. We are confident in knowing our daughter is safe and enjoys her time at the nursery with her teachers and friends!

When I viewed Kindred I was impressed with the very clean and spacious rooms with lots of light, and how warm and friendly the team were. I also like that all food is made onsite and the chef has a great knowledge of the children.
My 3-year-old started in March this year. He immediately loved going
and has come on amazingly, he is not even 4 and he can write his name incredibly neatly. I am always blown away by what he gets up to during the day and I feel confident that he is being set up to begin school next year with a head-start.
It was a no-brainer for my 1-year-old to start in June. They really take the child's lead to ensure that they are happy and comfortable. Handovers are always very well managed, with him receiving comfort when needed and updating me on how he is.
The whole team really are wonderful, and I really appreciate not only the amount they get up to but also that the app is kept updated so I get a glimpse into their day.
Reply from Niki McCormick, Marketing Admin at Kindred Islington Nursery and Pre-schoolThank you for your kind review and for being a part of our family at Kindred Islington. Children are our passion and we endeavour to help them grow and thrive through the creation of moments of awe and wonder. We're so pleased you like our App as we love being able to keep our parents updated with as much information as we can. May your little ones continue to have fun with us at their home from home.

My child was at the nursery for 18 months before Kindred took over and it was excellent. Kindred's takeover was terribly orchestrated, changes were made with no communication to parents, meals went from 2 home-cooked meals a day to 'vegetable sticks and tomato dip' for dinner. First all the staff left,
so there wasn't enough staff to take the kids outside each day, and then all the kids started leaving. Within a couple of months every member of my child's class had left, parents absolutely horrified by the decline in the nursery. The worst part is the way Kindred treated the staff, hiring a new manager and desperately trying to find any reason to fire the previous one who the kids/parents loved. Despite being at the nursery for 2 years my child suddenly started crying at every drop-off, after 4 months I knew I had to move them. They are now at a council-run nursery, the fees are half of Kindreds, it has an amazing outdoor area, 2 home-cooked meals, staff and children are visibly happier.
Reply from Niki McCormick, Marketing Admin at Kindred Islington Nursery and Pre-schoolThank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear about your concerns and appreciate the opportunity to address them. Our meals continue to be home-cooked by our on-site chef, with menus accredited by a nutritionist, ensuring children receive healthy and nutritious food throughout the day. Regarding staff changes, while some members have left for individual reasons, we have retained many long-serving team members. Additionally, we have successfully recruited new staff, including a Senior Nursery Manager, who have settled in well and are contributing positively. Children are taken on daily trips to parks, including visits to our award-winning Forest School, providing enriching outdoor experiences. We regret that your child felt upset during drop-offs. We encourage parents to share any concerns with us promptly so we can address them immediately. Thank you again for your feedback. We are committed to providing the best care and experience for all children in our setting.

My son has attended this nursery for two years now, and we adore it! The caregivers are so sweet and truly adore the kids. They offer loads of fun activities every day, much beyond what I'm capable of or have the energy to do at home. They cook all the food on site from scratch too, which is important
to me. Thank you, Kindred family! We love you all.

Lack of staffing: The nursery is dangerously understaffed.
Our child is in the baby room and we have rarely seen the legal staff ratio being adhered to. I frequently saw a ratio of 1:16 for under 18 months.
My child shows signs of lack of care: rashes requiring prescribed antibiotics due to lack
of nappy changes, and whole days without napping (at under 15m).
Menu: The menu is extremely poor and not as advertised. I witnessed babies under 1 being served processed ham sandwiches with crisps.
No outdoor time: There is no adequate outdoor space.
Due to staffing levels, they have gone whole weeks without going outside.
Management: The manager is abrasive and unprofessional.
Re: understaffing the manager admitted noncompliance with ratios and continuing to intake more children despite noncompliance. She told us to hand in our notice as there was no plan to fix the issue.
Our child no longer attends - it was an absolute worse nightmare.
Reply from Niki McCormick, Marketing Admin at Kindred Islington Nursery and Pre-schoolThank you for your review. We're disappointed to read this. Although we have discussed the points above, we want to clarify some areas and update you on developments since your departure in February. A notable change is the appointment of an experienced Senior Nursery Manager in March, who is reinforcing our dedication to continuous improvement. Children are taken on daily trips to parks, including with an award-winning Forest School. Trips were temporarily reduced to ensure robust risk assessments were in place following Kindred assuming management, but children still had access to our gardens. Nursery Management ensures adherence to our menu, recently enhanced and soon to be accredited by a children's nutritionist. Our children's safety is paramount, including strict compliance with staff/child ratios. Management ensures ratios are always adhered to. We create calm and safe spaces for sleep. If children choose not to nap, our team are experienced in supporting with individual needs.

I have two children in Kindred Islington - my eldest has been through every room and is now in Oak room and my youngest is just one, in the baby room. Sadly we have to pull them out as we are leaving the area and moving to Kent.
We are devastated to be leaving. My god the staff are wonderful! They
are so engaged, so kind and so caring. My eldest is outside daily, taken on walks, picnics, to parks and forest school. He is taught phonics and is already familiar with all letters of the alphabet at age three! I love them!
My youngest has adjusted so well - he adores it there and happily leaves my arms to get into his day there. They do amazing activities, messy play, baby yoga, dancing, art and have a sensory room the babies love. It’s such a joy to see. We feel very privileged to have been part of The Grove family (name recently changed to Kindred) and were very sad it has come to an end. We’ve made so many friends through the nursery - it’s a lovely community to be part of.
Reply from Emma Avery, Marketing Assistant at Kindred Islington Nursery and Pre-schoolThank you so much for your lovely review, the team at Kindred Islington works so hard to provide a home-from-home environment with lots of amazing opportunities for all children to thrive and experience things they may not have at home. We hope your move goes smoothly and wish you all the best for the future.

Since my son joined the nursery, all the staff have been so caring. Making him and myself feel at ease. From the warm reception entering to seeing the manager daily and can ask any questions or queries that might arise. I've found the photos and updates really key for parents to feel involved. All of
the daycare staff have gone above and beyond to help both of us feel supported. With work situations changing regularly, there has been lots of flexibility to days and balancing costs from a parent's side. There were small teething issues when it was taken over, which is understandable, but I feel they have overcome them. There will always be a staffing issue, as in any care industry, which is unavoidable. I feel confident that my child is having a good day and that he and I are supported - which is the main factor!

We enrolled our child in The Grove 18 months ago. Since Kindred group's takeover we've witnessed a concerning decline.
Menu: The menu now adheres to basic governmental guidance, featuring repetitive ingredients like cheese and carbs. This has negatively impacted our child's eating habits at home. Management
hasn't shown concrete motivation for change.
Management: Poor communication led to the departure of numerous long-term (loved) key staff members, causing instability with our child experiencing three key worker changes in a few weeks. The management denied any responsibility.
Staffing: While commendable staff remains, further departures are likely, while hiring is "difficult", as per management.
Outdoor activities: The nursery lacks outdoor space, and reduced short outings post-Kindred's takeover do not justify the cost.
In conclusion, we cannot recommend Kindred Islington Nursery due to declining quality, communication issues, staff turnover, and limited outdoor activities.

We signed up to "The Grove" nursery in October 2022 and my son adjusted so well to his baby room, thanks to the incredibly caring and supportive staff that made that transition so easy. It was always a tough sell for us that the nursery had no garden, other than a very small strip out the front of the
baby room, but we were told the children were taken out daily for excursions and that, alongside the wonderful staff, made us feel at ease. Unfortunately, since the takeover from Kindred of the nursery, we have not seen consistency of the children being taken outdoors every day. On average my son now goes outside three times per week, for a short time. The communication around Kindred's outdoor policy has been weak and we have had many corporate responses that don't outline an actual plan for change. Staff are also fed up and are leaving which is really sad as many have worked at the nursery for a long time. I would no longer recommend this nursery.

Our child has been at the nursery for a year and loves it, as do we. There is great attention to detail, which makes it feel like a genuinely loving, homely environment. But the best thing about the nursery is the staff. They always seem happy to be there, and like they really care about the children.
We can't recommend The Grove highly enough and have been reminded what an exceptional environment it is now that we are leaving the area and having to look at new nurseries, none of which feel half as good as here.

I highly recommend The Grove Nursery, and I'm so thrilled with the love, care, education and nurturing that my son has received over the past year. Despite wanting the best for our child, we were new to the country so it was of utmost importance to research our options and make the right decision, but
what gave us all the confidence we needed was the gut feeling we experienced on the tour and in the first month. Our son received the best support during this major transition (post covid, new country, new nursery), we couldn't be happier and he is just thriving. The engagement between educators/staff and the children is brilliant, and to me, this is what has stood out the most.

Our daughter started at The Grove when she was eleven months old and has been attending for seven months now. She absolutely loves her time at the nursery and the level of care and support from all the staff is excellent. The facilities are fantastic too and the children have the opportunity to engage
in a wide range of activities, such as painting, baking, messy play, baby yoga and reading. Our daughter is growing into a confident, bright, inquisitive toddler, thanks in part to the experiences she is having at The Grove and we would highly recommend the nursery.

We have two children in the nursery and absolutely love it. Everyone is so kind and thoughtful, both our kids run in every morning. I love how carefully the staff support the development of each child and work with us when there are things the kids find tricky or there are problems. Our eldest is now
in the preschool room and we can see him getting ready for school. For example, by teaching him to learn at a table and taking the kids further afield on trips. He loves music, Spanish and dancing and is getting lots of help managing those big toddler emotions! While the outside space is limited, both kids go out to parks most days and forest school has been a real highlight for our eldest. I honestly can't recommend The Grove highly enough.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.552)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.552) out of 10 for Kindred Islington Nursery and Pre-school is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 32 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.552 for Kindred Islington Nursery and Pre-school is calculated as follows: ( (298 Excellents x 5) + (44 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (11 Poors x 2) + (18 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 382 Ratings = 4.552
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kindred Islington Nursery and Pre-school is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 78 number of registered child places is 15.6, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I love all aspects of child development, but I have a passion for supporting speech & language development as well as children’s well-being & self-esteem and also movement & physical play and how this supports brain development.
