Newnham Nursery is a small, welcoming nursery located close to the heart of Cambridge city centre, providing high-quality early years provision for families in Newnham, surrounding areas, and the University of Cambridge community.

Sessions take place in a large, adaptable community room within the secure, enclosed grounds of Newnham Croft Primary School, offering children a safe and familiar environment in which to learn and grow.
The nursery is a nurturing early years setting with a clear structure to each day. Children benefit from a thoughtfully planned routine that balances play, learning, rest, and social interaction, helping them to feel secure while developing independence and confidence. Through a play-based approach, children are encouraged to explore, ask questions, and express themselves through hands-on activities that support intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development.

An experienced and qualified team provides a wide range of engaging activities in a safe, inclusive, and stimulating environment. A strong key-person approach and a high staff-to-child ratio ensure that each child is well known, supported, and encouraged to progress at their own pace. Individual needs and interests are recognised, helping every child to feel valued and confident.
Newnham Nursery places great importance on preparing children for the transition to school. Early literacy, numeracy, social skills, and emotional resilience are gently developed, laying strong foundations for future learning.

Parents are viewed as essential partners in a child’s early education, and open communication and collaboration are actively encouraged. Together, the nursery and families create a warm, supportive learning experience where children can thrive, develop a love of learning, and begin their educational journey with confidence.

Sessions run from 9:00am to 3:00pm weekdays during term time.

Funding & Fees

Our fees for non funded sessions are 8.00 per hour.
We accept 2 year old funding, universal funding for all 3-4 year olds and 30 hours funding


We offer mornings session or day sessions (morning and afternoon)
morning sessions are 9:00am - 12:00pm (3 hours per day > 15 hours per week)
day sessions are 9:00am - 15:00pm (6 hours per day > 30 hours per week)

Optional additional charges apply for extracurricular activities should you wish to attend or wish to purchase;

Please note that the 15 hours funded sessions are only available for morning sessions: 09:00 am to 12:00pm.
Afternoon sessions are not included within the 15 hours funded package and these must be paid for separately.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Newnham nursery is a happy, calm and nurturing setting, run by Susan who is incredibly knowledgeable and experienced, having been in her role for many years.
The setting has the benefit of being able to use the primary school playground, as well as having its own enclosed play area - which means the
kids have lots of opportunity to run around in the fresh air. It's well away from main roads and there are lots of trees and birds which makes the environment feel peaceful.
Inside the nursery there is a lovely balance of free play, group time and structured activities, with a new theme picked and clearly followed each week.
It's relatively small, which means the staff members know each child really well as an individual and there's a great community of parents.
Would highly recommend.
