From the moment we stepped into the school, we were impressed by the warm, nurturing atmosphere at Skippers. It's evident that the school places a high priority on creating an environment that is not only safe and inviting but also stimulating for young minds. The teachers and staff are truly remarkable. Their expertise in early childhood education is evident in the way they engage with each child. They are not just educators; they are caring mentors who understand the unique needs and potential of every young learner. Their dedication to fostering a love of learning and curiosity in our daughter has been a joy to witness. Our experience with Skippers has been incredibly positive. The caring, nurturing approach of everyone involved has not only helped our daughter grow in confidence but has also laid a solid foundation for her future learning journey. We wholeheartedly recommend this preschool to any parent looking for a high-quality early education for their child.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review.
My son started in Kindergarten at Skippers in September and absolutely loves it. The facilities are incredible and the children are able to play outside and enjoy the beautiful grounds. The staff in Kindergarten are kind, attentive and nurturing. My son loves going in and there is a wide variety of activities for them to do. I’d recommend Skippers to anyone.
A school that is more like family to our little boy. Whilst enjoyable for small children to attend, the school manages to ensure their development in their early years. The Skippers staff are incredibly understanding of the needs of the children and a great comfort to them during the tricky transition of starting nursery and spending time away from home.
The teaching we have seen to date is a great blend of structured learning and child-led learning. The teachers are very invested in the children and put a lot into the school and all of the ‘extras’ (performances etc). Overall, we are very happy!
The most lovely of places. We can not fault Skippers Hill for anything. Lovely staff, a nurturing environment, and beautiful grounds for the children to explore. We love the fact that all year groups know each other and support each other. The management team is second to none. Just a truly outstanding school.
Skippers is such a nurturing and happy environment for children. The staff are so friendly and accommodating and treat every child as an individual. My daughter loves being there - she runs in in the morning and comes out full of smiles and chatter and does so many different things each day. The outside space is just amazing. Skippers is a really lovely place to be.
Thank you Tanya for such a lovely review of Skippers!
My son has been going to this Skippers Hill for over a year now. He is developing into an amazing little person and Skippers have only ever aided in this. They look at each child individually, their care and affection towards the children would put any nervous people at ease. The resources they have are incredible and my little one loves having so much space and is particularly fond of the mud kitchen. I will and do recommend Skippers Hill to all my friends looking for somewhere for their children.
My daughter is a complete chatterbox after a session at Kindergarten, it's a joy to hear of all her wonderful adventures and creations- I wish I was three again!
Staff are loving and warm, they provide excellent opportunities for creative play and learning. The interaction with reception also a highlight and prepares children well for primary school. I was completely confident going to work knowing my girls were here.

Montessori Dipl, BA Early Years, EYPS.
I decided I wanted to be a teacher at the age of 7 because I loved school and was lucky enough to have inspirational teachers in both the schools I attended. I have worked as an Early Years teacher for more than 30 years, and have enjoyed every moment. The most rewarding part of my job is being able to witness the progress and development of the children in my care. In the Early Years of teaching, there are many special ‘wow’ moments, as the children make such rapid and visible progress. Every day is different, as each child contributes new ideas and new questions which inspire our teaching.
I am very proud to be part of an outstanding Early Years team at Skippers. Every staff member has their own ‘specialism’, such as a passion for providing a rich environment, an enthusiasm for outdoor learning, a deep knowledge of Schema theory or a strong interest in language acquisition. We work together for the benefit of every small person we are lucky enough to welcome into our Nursery. We strongly believe that a child who feels safe and loved will thrive. Skippers is a very happy place to work and play!
My interests outside school include reading, sewing, dog walking on Ashdown Forest and spending time with my large, loud family, several of whom are also teachers! I also enjoy keeping up with new research and developments in the Early Years field.
MA in Early Years Education, BA (Hons) History and EYTS.
What led you to teaching?
The birth of my daughter in 2019 led me to the literature surrounding the significance of the early years and I have never looked back. It became clear to me that I had a passion for this research and prompted me to study for a Masters in Early Years Education alongside my Early Years Teachers status.
What inspires you and what do you do?
The early years (0-5) are the most significant years in a person’s life and this knowledge inspires and motivates me every day. I am so rewarded by the enthusiasm and joy I see on the faces of the children we teach and care for, and their staggering rate of development keeps me motivated and innovative!
I am passionate about offering diverse, engaging and exciting learning opportunities which value, respect and reflect the individuality of the children. This is the perfect partner for the independent, self-led and intrinsically motivated learning I see occurring spontaneously in children.
What do you love most about Skippers?
The warmth and friendliness. The home-from-home feel is clear through the dispositions of the children. This gives the children the confidence to live, learn and thrive.
Who was your most inspirational or influential teacher?
My most influential teacher was my A-Level History teacher. She was incredibly knowledgeable, hardworking and approachable. Yet most of all, she saw the best in me and this allowed me to see the best in myself. She became my primary inspiration for studying History at the undergraduate level.
