View Full Details of Dicky Birds Day Nursery and Preschool Raynes Park, Durham RoadOur 19-month-old has been at DBs since March, and she is absolutely thriving. She can't wait to get in and choose her breakfast in the morning! She loves seeing her friends and she is very fond of the carers. She nearly always eats all of her food (most days she does!) and she is always active or doing some sort of fun and exciting activity. Big shout out to the Flamingoes, but also a big thank you to Cygnets where she started her nursery journey.
Our child took a while to settle but now absolutely loves it at this nursery. The staff have been wonderful, they are always friendly, cheerful and caring and have good relationships with the children. They have a large range of toys in the rooms and a lovely outdoor area for them to play. They do indoor activities and his favourite days include excursions to the local parks. The app isnt always up to date but much more important we trust they are being well looked after which we do. Thank you!
We've been at Dicky Birds Durham Road since April 2021 and had our 2 boys attending full time from the baby room up to preschool. We now have our baby joining as well. We have always loved the staff - they genuinely care for the little ones and we have created a trusting relationship with a few of them. The communication with the rooms during the day is also good and can be regular: via the App we are able to ask questions and the staff replies as soon as they can. We trust them and feel comfortable leaving our youngest baby with them as we did with our previous two children. We have very good relationship also with one of the managers who's been there for several years - and that helps a lot for continuity. One area of improvement would be in my opinion the preschool class which used to be very organised and followed a good curriculum/ educational activities. Since a few key leaders left I feel that standards have dropped. The fees are very high -but standard it seems to this sector.
My daughter loves going to Dicky birds. She has been exposed to a wide range menu which has really helped her as she was a really picky eater. She always talks about painting, going to the park, seeing trains and playing in the garden. The staff are also so good with her and I really feel like she's in great hands I never worry!
All the staff are very caring and seem to genuinely enjoy seeing and spending time with the children. I also like that there doesn't seem to be a huge turnover of staff so there is good consistency in the level of care day to day.
I can't fault this nursery. Both of my sons went to Dicky Birds Durham Road and they were so so happy there. They are both confident, happy and kind little boys which is a credit to the staff at Dicky Birds Durham Road.
I am very happy with Dicky Birds Durham Road- every staff member is so friendly and they all make an effort to acknowledge me and my son every drop off and pick up! There is always a good variety of activities and I couldn't fault our experience so far. Thank you all!!
We are so pleased with Dicky Birds Durham Road. I have complete trust and confidence in the staff. My child is happy, learning lots, having lots of cuddles, and has connected really well to all staff. It's a warm, friendly atmosphere and they communicate very well with the parents. We feel part of the DBs community and highly recommend them.
I couldn't love Dicky Birds more!!!! It feels like one big happy family - all the staff are so welcoming and know my daughter by name. She has settled in so well and her development and progress is so recognisable!! I couldn't be more grateful for what they do to go above and beyond!! Thank you all
Our son has been at the nursery for a year and a half, and it's hard to put into words just how grateful we are for the care and love he has received. From the very beginning, he has been so happy to go in every day, always full of smiles and excitement. He has built such strong connections with the staff, and it's clear how much he is loved and supported there. Everyone has been amazing with him, nurturing, attentive, and genuinely caring-but we are especially thankful for his Nursery Practitioner. The bond they share is truly special, and we will always be grateful for her presence in his early years. It's incredibly hard to say goodbye to such a wonderful place. This nursery has been more than just childcare-it has been a safe and loving environment where our son has grown, thrived, and felt deeply connected. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Our daughter's carers are great, personable and really care about what they are doing. More updates for the Monday and Fridays would be appreciated as it feels like most activities and updates are on Tuesday to Thursday. We haven't been best pleased with the constant change, be it in staff, management or the rooms/groups. It's been all over the place. Lastly, the code on the doors has been the same for at least two years, which might be a risk?
We are so happy with the staff at Dicky Birds. Our son absolutely adores being there and it's clear he has an amazing relationship with his carer and the other staff. We have noticed his development going from strength to strength from his time at Dicky Birds. The staff are all very friendly and loving. Thank you.
Our daughter has been at Dicky Birds from one year old and is off to school in September. She has loved her time there and often doesn't want to leave at the end of each day. The staff are dedicated and caring.
My son is still fairly new to Dicky Birds, Durham Road however I am already so impressed with the staff and facilities. The team in the Puffins room in particular are wonderful. They are kind, compassionate and nurturing and their communication has been excellent. I always appreciate their honesty on how my son has been each day and feel like they really care about him and how they can give him the best experience while attending dicky birds. After only 2 sessions, my son and I had a day off together and I asked him what he would like to do that day. He said ‘Go to nursery mummy, to see the ladies and the children’ - I think that sums everything up perfectly really. Thank you Puffins team, you guys are brilliant at what you do and we’re very grateful for all your hard work and care.
Our daughter has been at the nursery since we moved to the area about 12 months ago when she was one. She’s always been happy to go to nursery, has a close relationship with the staff, and seems to be progressing through her interactive learning with the team well. We’ve always been happy with the nursing staff, and the facilities, and would more than recommend the nursery to other parents.
Our children have always been very happy. I am pleased to send them there and will continue to do so. Thank you to all their teachers who continue to make their lives fulfilling with activities and daily fun!
Very happy with the level of care my son receives at Dicky Birds Durham Road. He has been with them for over a year and loves going to nursery. He regularly chats to us at home about his little pals and his room team. It’s so hard to leave your little loved ones in the care of others, but I feel 100% confident that he is happy, cared for and flourishing with the wonderful team of staff there.
Used to be the best nursery in the area with many months long waiting list. Had two kids there between 2019 -2023. the biggest asset is the baby room where team seems to be stable and genuinely caring. Pre- school room known as Pelicans is the one where both my kids were unhappy. Limited outings, high turnover of the staff. There is just no excitement from staff in the morning what so ever. Over all standards dropped ever since Grandir took over. From my point of view, it very much depends on what room is your child in and who is the key worker. There are some fantastic carers who do care about the children and equally there are those who could not look more bored and uninterested. Staff deserving shout out is Amina, Shannon, Shaunie, Hannah and Julie. Offsted closed nursery for more less a week last year, followed by unsatisfactory report. that makes you wonder. 10 hours a day is a long day for the little ones, choose carefully where you put them.
My child moved to Dick Birds Durham Road in April 2023. He settled in quickly and is really happy there. The assistant manager is great - always available to answer questions. His time in the puffin's room has been fantastic. The staff in there are so caring and fun! He is currently settling into Pelicans, and one lady is an absolute credit.
We had 2 children at the nursery covering the period of Sept-2019 to May 2023. The nurturing environment we joined in 2019 is no longer there, the feel of the nursery completely changed. Staff are overstretched and demotivated. The nursery now does the bare minimum for the children. Previously they would go to local parks every day with staff, now there is limited outside time and only weekly trips out at best. Previously there were sports lessons, swimming classes and forest school for preschool classes, this has all been cut back. The nursery was sold to a larger organization and no surprise the standards have slipped whilst simultaneously the fees and profit margins have gone up. Parents raised concerns a number of times with Management and got little engagement or improvement. The recent OFSTED poor reviews are the final straw for the nursery. Needless to say, we moved our children to a better, more outside-focussed nursery.
