View Full Details of Dicky Birds Day Nursery and Preschool Surbiton, Brighton RoadWould highly recommended the Brighton Road nursery to all families. Very friendly and professional staff and management, overall a great nursery that provides a safe and happy environment for the it's children.
We have two children at Dickybirds Brighton Road who have been there since age 1 (now 3.5 and 16 months) and have been really happy with the care throughout. The staff are all so lovely, the children learn and develop so much and the communication on the app has been great. Our children are really happy and thriving there.
My daughter has attended since 9months old and the staff are so warm and caring. It's felt extremely reassuring to know she is having such a good time there and being so well looked after. Communication is great and they do lots of activities and outings. My daughter always rushes in and is thrilled to see the staff! Very pleased that she's attending here.
Our daughter started nursery in February at 10.5 months old. After just four days, she stopped crying at drop-off and now sometimes happily launches into carers' arms. The staff are very communicative and always make time to talk. Safeguarding is strong-e.g., the see-through nappy area ensures no carer is alone with a baby. I've had to wait outside twice due to staff ratios, but only for about 5 minutes, which I didn't mind as it ensures proper care (3:1 ratio). We really like the app for updates; I wish there were more photos, but I'd rather staff focus on care. Overall we are really happy and our little girl seems to be thriving and enjoying herself there.
My daughter loves going to this nursery. It is a kind and caring place which gives her the opportunity to develop, learn, be safe, make friends and have fun. The nursery communicates regularly with the parents both in a general way and with specific observations. I'll stop everything that I am doing when I receive a specific observation about something that my daughter has shown. You feel that the staff genuinely care for all the children, and the way that my daughter walks straight into the nursery each day makes me feel she enjoys being there.
I have sent two children to Dicky Birds Brighton Road and they have absolutely thrived there. The staff are caring and really love your kids, meaning they learn, play and make lots of friends. Over the last three years we have been really looked after and I recommend it for any new parents.
It hasn't been a big trouble to find the right nursery for our daughter to be honest. Early this year we went to see our options and at the end, we just knew that we felt more comfortable when we visited this nursery so we were happy when in September our daughter started. We saw after 2 weeks already that she was going to nursery very happy. In the morning she went down towards the door and got her shoes and coat to go out. And she still does it every day, even when she actually doesn't. So it is very important for us to see this as it is already hard leaving your child but when you know that they're happy and they're very well looked after, then is okay. You know they are in the right place.
The nursery has improved since the new manager arrived. They have added new equipment to the rooms which helps the development of the kids. Parents are listened when they raise their concerns, like with the new food menu which has then updated a few weeks after it was launched after receiving feedback from the parents. Communication has improved as well, from management and from the key persons in the room. Our daughter has been attending since she was 6 months old and we can see how well going to this nursery has helped her.
My daughter settled very well with help of kind staff members. She likes all activities and has a great time in the nursery. Staff is friendly and considerate by responding to our needs. Also there is a nice back garden where my daughter loves to play.
My children have attended the nursery since 2020. The nursery's real assets are the educators and caregivers in the rooms. In particular, the baby room and preschool room have had such a strong and experienced team. Both my children are hugely attached to their key person which is such a pleasure to see. The children engage in so many fun activities, water play, fire brigade visits, forest schools, spa days, walks etc. The walks out are slightly less than they used to be, but still more than other local nurseries I believe. Over the last year, there have been changes in management but I think that has been important in terms of supporting the staff. The current setup seems to work very well. Any criticisms I have are directed more at the nursery chain. E.g. high prices for fewer hours compared to competitors, unclear price rises and changes to the menu etc I feel positively about the nursery and my children are flourishing.
I cannot say enough lovely things about the team at the nursery. My daughter has been here for 6 months (since she was 9 months) and I feel so lucky to have found such a wonderful team to take care of her. She loves her varied day (evidenced by the photo updates we receive) but her favourite bit is the super tasty menu - she has a great appetite now! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Dicky Birds as a care option to other new parents.
We sent both our children to Dicky Birds since 2020. They have both loved attending and what I have always valued above everything else is the staff. They genuinely care for the children and their welfare. They pay attention to detail and how to comfort and care for the children. The management are well connected to the staff and children and know each and every child. My children always ate well and the decision to keep the inhouse chef after parent feedback has worked well. The nursery is physically a smaller space than others, but I valued the fact that the children were taken outside into the real world for walks and outings.
The nursery is overall good. My son is happy which is the most important. I also find the meals to be very good. A couple of issues I experience as a parent is that my son has wee accidents quite often there, whereas at home he has none. So I think there's room for improvement in that area. Also there have been a few cases of understaffing resulting in not accepting all the kids at the site or waiting till another member of staff comes from another nursery so all the children can be accepted.
Our baby girl has been attending Dicky Birds Day Nursery and Preschool Surbiton, Brighton Road for around 5 months now and shes never been happier. She has learnt so many wonderful things whilst in their care and she has an action-packed day, every day, which is fantastic. The staff clearly care so much for the kids and I trust she is in very capable hands. There can sometimes be staffing issues, true, but I think this is a reality for a lot of nurseries and you can see they really are trying to be as fair as possible. Nothing but love for them! Thank you Dicky Birds.
The staff deserve so much praise for the dedication and care they take for their children but more recently with new management and a new company takeover, the standard of the nursery has dropped. The gardens are messy, there doesn't seem to be as many activities set up for the children, and the kids seemed to be hurried through rooms so they can take more kids in the older room (potentially before they are ready) so they can lower staff quarters. Of course, there is the ongoing issue of being turned away at the door on a morning and being asked to wait which has been super stressful for both staff, children and parents. The price seems to keep increasing but the quality of the setting doesn't. I used to highly recommend this nursery but now I simply say the staff are great, and it's okay.
This nursery has many issues. Staff turnover is extremely high, to the point they turn you away pretty much every morning. They don't have the decency to even call you to apologise. They make you come in and then tell you at the door they have no staff. They also use an agency which most respected nurseries don't do. So you have no clue who's with your child, how they are with your child, you get no updates, they currently have an issue with the garden where the manager is trying to "win back" in her exact words. They try to run a nursery on a housing development and the neighbours constantly complain about the nursery noise. You don't get told what they have eaten, you don't even get photos, and you hardly get communication. The staff at the nursery have begged me to report the manager of Brighton Road, as I have been told by staff she is mean to them and yells at them constantly. Probably why there's no staff. No parking outside, and everything is squashed. Avoid at all costs.
Absolutely delightful nursery. Keep it up! Super satisfactory and reliable nursery. Can't recommend it enough. Every member of staff is caring and loving. Staff mix in gender, culture and are also well above the standard nursery. My kids love everything about the nursery.
We had our son in Dicky Birds for a few years, but since new management started not only he has always been unhappy going in, but since they don't have enough staff on many occasions, they refused to let us in (which is challenging if you have a demanding job to suddenly take a leave) or had to queue outside the nursery for over 2 hours (an issue when your son does not want to go in, in the first place and you need to get to work). When we pick him up, it seems he was just rolling in the dirt the whole day, without anyone paying much attention. They are expensive, understaffed, and poorly managed I would not recommend this nursery at all with the current system they have in place.
Our son has been attending Dicky Birds for almost two months now and really seems to love it - if we walk past on days where he isn't in, he runs up to the door and knocks to go in! The staff in Swans Room are all really friendly and enthusiastic, always with smiles on their faces. We are expecting a new addition to the family in the summer and we've already signed her up for a place when she turns one. Thank you Dicky Birds Team!
The staff at Dicky Birds have always been outstanding. Both of our children are very happy there and get up to all sorts of activities, which really does seem to nurture their development and creativity. That said, some of the changes implemented since the nursery was sold have been negative. This includes: 1. Moving “Robins” to an underground room full time. When we joined the nursery we were assured this room was only to be used as an extra room. 2. Losing the on-site chefs and then experimenting with a system that left children hungry. 3. Stopping jolly phonics. 4. Communicating important changes like the above only after the event, and even then using management speak and technical terminology e.g. arguing in favour of "phonological awareness and oral blending", without clearly explaining what actually happens in the classrooms now. 5. Moving billing from a system that made sense to one that is completely impossible to follow.
