Latest Reviews for Hillside Day Nursery (Potterswood)

Our child has been attending Hillside Nursery (Potterswood site) for over 3 years now. The site is great as its away from roads and has a homely feel with loads of outdoor space and its own woodland. The approach of the nursery (curiosity technique) follows the lead of the kids which encourages self
growth and confidence.
The staff are all so brilliant and I truly believe they would nurture any kind of child. They have the perfect mix of supervision & guidance with free play, being outdoors / experiencing nature & messy play all valued highly. Indoor activities are set up daily to encourage co-ordination, language & numeracy without it feeling forced upon the kids. Independence is built gradually so by the time they are in Pre School room they are toilet trained, able to eat and drink and serve themselves.
We really can't think of a better place to start a child before school, we have always felt so happy leaving Ailsa there as we know she'll be loved, nourished & pushed when needed.

I sent my child to this nursery for four years, and I am extremely disappointed with the experience. From the start, my child was unfairly labelled as "naughty," and instead of receiving support, it was clear that staff lacked the training to handle challenging behaviour effectively. The approach to
children who needed extra support was severely lacking.
The management at this nursery is completely unapproachable and rude. When we attempted to transfer our child to another nursery, the management responded in an unprofessional and vindictive manner, informing all staff that we "didn't think they were good enough." This created a very toxic environment and made it impossible to have an open and constructive conversation.
Staff retention is another major concern. When our child first joined, there were five long-term, experienced staff members; now, after four years, only one of them remains. This high turnover clearly affects the quality of care and continuity for the children.

The owners/managers and the Hillside team have been amazing from the start of my son’s preschool journey; they have been so helpful, kind and considerate of our needs as a family with two working parents. My son, who is due to start school in September, was a shy boy who could barely put his shoes
on; he is now a confident, self-aware boy who is ready to start school, thanks to all staff who interact with him on a daily basis.
My daughter started at Hillside in September; she has so much fun with ‘messy play’, singing songs, playing and exploring in the amazing garden, going on trips and benefitting from the love and attention the staff offer.
Thanks all for your hard work and memories my children make.

My daughter started at Hillside when she was 9 months old and I returned to work after maternity leave. Everyone at Hillside made this transition a smooth one and were incredibly understanding and supportive. My little girl is now 16 months old and has settled very well, thanks to the good work of
the staff. Who are kind, caring and understanding. I have noticed her time at Hillside has had a truly positive influence on her, particularly in her interaction and play with other children. My little girl has formed some lovely relationships with the staff and clearly enjoys her time at Hillside. The activities and play the children have the opportunity to take part in are fun and interesting and there is a really nice sense of community with the children, parents and staff. I would recommend Hillside to any parent looking for a nursery for your little one.

We were very lucky to find this nursery when we moved into the area. The staff were very welcoming and our eldest settled quickly (who is now at school). Our youngest is very happy in toddlers and is always keen to go in. The staff do all sort of activities and are keen to know how he's developing
at home which they incorporate into his planning. The garden facilities are great and they like to go on walks outside the nursery. Top marks!

All three of my children attended Hillside Day Nursery Potterswood, and I have always felt relaxed knowing my children were safe, warm, fed and cared for in an appropriate manner. They’ve been able to explore in ways that they don’t at home, they’ve made a mess, come home filthy, made friends and
never come home asking not to go back to nursery.
The managers and staff are welcoming too, you can approach anyone at any convenient time and they will give you their time and act upon your comments.
