At Tiny Toez, we’re passionate about creating meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that reach far beyond the walls of the classroom. One of the most enriching ways we do this is through our Forest School sessions, an outdoor programme designed to give children the freedom to explore, discover, and connect with the natural world.
What Happens at Forest School
Each session is thoughtfully planned by our Forest School Lead to ensure children can safely explore and learn at their own pace. During our latest adventure, the children eagerly immersed themselves in their surroundings: climbing over fallen logs, collecting sticks, examining different leaves, and chatting excitedly about the natural wonders they found along the way. A highlight of the day was gathering twigs during our walk and using them to build a small fire. With support, the children toasted their own bread over the flames, a simple activity that sparked so much joy, pride, and curiosity.
The Benefits of Forest School
Forest School offers a wealth of developmental benefits, supporting children in a truly holistic way: ?? Building Confidence and Independence The outdoor environment naturally encourages children to take safe, measured risks. Whether they’re balancing on logs or navigating uneven ground, each new challenge helps them grow in confidence and self-belief. ?? Supporting Physical Development Climbing, lifting, running, and exploring all contribute to stronger gross motor skills, improved coordination, and overall physical wellbeing. ?? Encouraging Communication and Social Skills Working together to solve problems or create imaginative play scenarios helps children develop language, cooperation, and teamwork. ?? Promoting Wellbeing and Emotional Resilience Nature has a calming, grounding effect. Time outdoors allows children to regulate their emotions, reduce stress, and build resilience as they encounter new experiences. ?? Inspiring Curiosity and a Love for Learning The forest is a living classroom. Children are naturally inquisitive, and Forest School nurtures this curiosity by giving them the space to ask questions, investigate, and learn through hands-on discovery.
Why We Do It
We believe that learning doesn’t only happen indoors. Forest School is an essential part of our approach because it supports the whole child; physically, emotionally, and socially. By offering these experiences from an early age, we help children develop a lifelong appreciation for nature, along with the confidence, resilience, and problem-solving skills they need to thrive. It also reflects our commitment to providing rich, varied opportunities that cater to different learning styles and spark a genuine love of learning.
