We are incredibly proud to announce that Lake House Day Nursery and Preschool, which is part of Grandir UK, has achieved a Strong Standard in two areas and an Expected Standard in four areas in its latest Ofsted inspection.

The inspection, which took place on 18th November 2025, was conducted under the government’s new Ofsted framework. Educational settings are now scored across six core areas, Achievement, Inclusion, Behaviour, Attitudes and Establishing Routines, Children’s Welfare and Well-being, Curriculum and Teaching and Leadership and Governance.

Lake House Day Nursery and Preschool offer a warm and supportive environment for young children aged 3 months to 5 years in the Westbury-Upon-Trym suburb of Bristol. Its experienced team are passionate about nurturing each child’s development, encouraging their curiosity, growth and independence.

The report praised many key aspects of the nursery across the six core areas including:

“Children enjoy being in this welcoming and inclusive nursery”

Children show that they feel happy and settled as they confidently leave their parents' side. They have built warm, secure relationships with staff and their peers and are keen to spend time with their friends. Children show they feel safe and secure as they eagerly access the range of resources provided. All children are prepared very well for future learning.

“Leaders provide an ambitious curriculum that has a positive impact for children”

The curriculum is designed to focus on what all children need to learn whilst also considering their interests. Experienced staff have a secure knowledge of what children need to know and learn next, using this knowledge to design activities and provide targeted interactions. Babies develop their communication skills very well as they sing songs and listen to stories read by staff. Older children explore and develop their language regularly, sharing ideas and using descriptive new vocabulary, and confidently use mathematical words and descriptions during their interactions with each other. Leaders evaluate the effectiveness of the curriculum and make appropriate adjustments.

“Leaders and staff have high expectations for children's behaviour and conduct”

They set clear, age-appropriate rules and boundaries that positively impact on children’s behaviour. Staff model a calm manner in their interactions with children, which in turn encourages children to be kind and helpful to their friends. For example, babies and younger children are keen to help their friends put on their bibs at the appropriate time. Older children happily share and take turns helping them to develop secure relationships. Children are aware of the consistent daily routines and participate in them confidently. Leaders place a high priority on developing an effective and robust key person approach which supports children’s emotional wellbeing.

“Leaders typically place an emphasis on staff development and well-being”

Experienced staff say that they feel very supported to access continual training opportunities they help them confidently observe children and assess their progress. Newer staff receive nurturing support from a buddy and explain how they are allocated time within their working day to attend their studies. Leaders regularly reflect on how well staff meet children's needs and identify where changes may bring about further improvement. Parents are keen to say how the nursery team has supported them, adapted the environment for their children and given them resources to use at home to support their child’s learning.

Leanne Bailey, Nursery Manager at the Lake House Day Nursery and Preschool, comments: “There have been many changes over the past two years, and without the Lake House team’s positivity and commitment, these achievements wouldn’t have been possible. I am incredibly proud of all we’ve accomplished together, which is reflected in our Ofsted report, with overwhelming support from our parents, Regional Manager and Early Years specialist. Building a cohesive team takes time, and guiding staff to make the right choices for children is a privilege. Without this dedicated team, the children wouldn’t receive the care, love, and passion for learning and development they deserve.”
