There was cause for celebration at West Cambridge Day Nursery in Cambridge as proud practitioners and parents learnt that the setting had achieved an ‘Outstanding’ judgement from Ofsted for the third time running, following an inspection in May.

An outcome achieved by only 10% of all English Early Years providers, the inspector praised the team on Charles Babbage Road for creating a “harmonious and happy learning environment“ where children are “inquisitive and eager to learn” and make “excellent progression”, all whilst supported by a “carefully structured and well-sequenced curriculum”.

The inspector observed that “staff ensure that all children have access to the wide variety of resources and experiences to help support their emotional, communication and personal development” and create a sense of belonging which “contributes to the ethos of inclusion to help each child feel valued”, in turn “offering stability and security”.

In the report, the inspector explained that “all groups of children, including those who speak English as an additional language and children with special educational needs and/or disabilities, make the very best progress in their learning and development” thanks to staff who “expertly use their knowledge of individual children to ensure the experiences they have accurately reflect what they need to know and understand next.”

Partnerships with parents were admired as “very strong” from the offset of joining the nursery, with staff involving parents and sharing information every step of the way, as well as welcoming them into the nursery to enjoy personal and cultural experiences with children, adding to “the awe and wonder children are introduced to in memorable and exciting ways”.

West Cambridge Day Nursery Manager, Lesa Clare said;

"This third Outstanding outcome reflects the passion, dedication, and belief we all share in every child’s potential. It’s a privilege to lead a team so committed to creating an environment where children feel valued, inspired, and truly at home. This recognition belongs to every practitioner, parent, and child who makes our nursery so special.”

Ofsted Inspector, Katrina Rodden explained;

“Children thrive in the well-run nursery. They freely move around to explore, experiment and investigate with the wide range of resources both inside their group rooms and gardens. Staff expertly use their knowledge about the children they care for to ensure resources that reflect children's interests are readily available. In addition, staff add further items to help support even more learning experiences.”
