The Nursery at Craigclowan School is this week welcoming a glowing report from the Care Inspectorate following a recent visit by inspectors to the Perth-based school.
The report highlights a wide range of strengths including the “children benefitted from a committed team, who were focussed on creating positive outcomes for children” and “children were happy, settled and confident in the setting”. When observing the children going about their day they said “Children were busy and having fun. They were leading their own play through a good balance of spontaneous and planned experiences”.
The inspection team observed the children’s use of the wider school grounds and noted “Children also regularly accessed the forest area where they built dens, made potions and cupcakes and enjoyed stories in the dens. Regular use was also made of the playing fields, the park and the forest”.
As well as observing the children and staff in action in the nursery, the inspection team also surveyed the parents in advance of their visit. Families shared comments like “my child is happy and likes going into nursery and has made plenty of friends”. They also said “staff are approachable, show genuine care and knowledge of the children”.
The Craigclowan Nursery has seen a 135% growth in the number of children attending over the last five years, and the School has invested in the new ‘Hedgehog House’ for three year olds to meet this growing demand for places. Despite this growth, the Care Inspectorate report shows no let up in the high standards of care and development the children benefit from.
Jill Moffat, Craigclowan Deputy Head and Head of Pre-Prep, said the results are testament to the dedicated, highly qualified, and hugely experienced Early Years staff within the nursery.
“We really have an outstanding team of nursery staff who take a huge pride in the care the children receive and also in the wide range of indoor and outdoor activities on offer. Once the children move into their Pre-school year, they are very much part of the wider life of the school, with lessons in hockey, PE, French, cycling, as well as lots of outdoor time in Forest School and the playpark. The outstanding start they receive in nursery is paying dividends with growing numbers transferring into the Junior School”.
Nursery places are available for the 2025/26 academic year, although early enquiry is recommended. Visits can be arranged to view the nursery and prep school by calling 01738 230 555 or emailing registrar@craigclowan-school.co.uk.
