Job Summary

Purpose of the Role

The Nursery Room Leader plays a key leadership role in ensuring the outstanding day-to-day management, quality and compliance of their room. Working in close partnership with the Nursery Management team. 

The Room Leader, in their room, will promote the highest standards of care, learning and professional practice, ensuring full compliance with EYFS, Ofsted and ISI requirements, while fostering a nurturing, stimulating and inclusive environment in line with the ethos and values of Little Farlington.

You will be supported by an experienced leadership structure including a Head of Lower School & Nursery, Nursery Manager, Deputy Nursery Manager & SENDCo, Third in Charge & Training & Development Lead and Curriculum Lead.

Principal Accountabilities/main duties

  • Support the smooth and efficient day-to-day running of the room.

  • Lead, motivate and support your staff to maintain high standards of care, education and professionalism.

  • Promote a positive, collaborative and high-performing working culture.

  • Ensure effective staff deployment and ratio compliance in line with EYFS statutory requirements.

  • Support staff induction.

  • Ensure all safeguarding, child protection, health and safety and confidentiality policies are implemented rigorously.

  • Hold and maintain a current Paediatric First Aid certificate.

  • Ensure planning, observation and assessment systems are consistently applied and of high standard within your room.

  • Promote a stimulating, inclusive and well-resourced learning environment indoors and outdoors.

  • Work alongside the Curriculum Lead and contribute to curriculum innovation in line with the nursery’s ethos of “what is possible.”

  • Support your staff in delivering creative, developmentally appropriate activities aligned with EYFS principles.

  • Ensure high standards of cleanliness, organisation and presentation across your room and outside environment.

  • Assist in preparing for inspections and regulatory visits.

  • Contribute to effective record keeping and secure information management.

  • Support the marketing team with the development of nursery handbooks, newsletters and promotional events.

  • Represent the nursery professionally at open mornings, cluster meetings and school events

  • Build strong, professional relationships with parents and carers.

  • Ensure effective communication regarding children’s progress and wellbeing.

  • Promote parental engagement in children’s learning and development.

  • Support structured and informal reporting to parents.

General Responsibilities

  • Uphold and promote the ethos, values and high standards of Little Farlington at all times.

  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions, INSET days and whole-school events.

  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all matters.

  • Undertake any reasonable duties as requested by the Head of Lower School or Nursery Manager.
