Job Summary

Level 3 Early Years Practitioner

Job Purpose

To provide high-quality care and education for children attending Little Loco's Day Nursery, ensuring their individual needs are met in a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment. The post holder will support children's learning and development in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and contribute to the smooth running of the nursery.

Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesChildcare and Education

  • Provide a warm, caring, and secure environment for all children.
  • Plan and deliver engaging activities that support children's learning and development in line with the EYFS.
  • Observe, assess, and record children's progress and achievements.
  • Act as a key person, building strong relationships with children and their families.
  • Support children's emotional wellbeing, independence, and confidence.
  • Promote positive behaviour through consistent and nurturing approaches.
  • Ensure all children are included and supported to reach their full potential.

Safeguarding and Welfare

  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of all children at all times.
  • Follow all nursery safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and stimulating environment.
  • Complete risk assessments and report any concerns promptly.
  • Administer medication in accordance with nursery procedures where appropriate.
  • Attend safeguarding and mandatory training as required.

Health and Safety

  • Ensure high standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained.
  • Follow health and safety procedures and nursery policies.
  • Support children with personal care routines, including nappy changing, toileting, feeding, and sleep routines.
  • Ensure accident and incident records are completed accurately.

Partnership with Parents and Carers

  • Develop positive and professional relationships with parents and carers.
  • Share information about children's learning, development, and wellbeing.
  • Support children's transitions within the nursery and into school.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.

Team Responsibilities

  • Work effectively as part of the nursery team.
  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
  • Contribute ideas to support continuous improvement within the nursery.
  • Support students, apprentices, and new staff where appropriate.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and act as a positive role model.

Person SpecificationEssential

  • Full and relevant Level 3 Early Years qualification.
  • Sound knowledge of the EYFS framework.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • Experience working with children aged 0–5 years.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

Desirable

  • Paediatric First Aid qualification.
  • Safeguarding training.
  • Experience as a key person.
  • Knowledge of child development and inclusive practice.

Hours of Work

As agreed with the Nursery Manager and in accordance with the needs of the nursery.
