The Nursery Apprentice is a trainee role designed to support the individual in gaining a recognised qualification in Early Years Education and Childcare (Level 2 or Level 3). Working under the guidance of experienced practitioners, the apprentice will assist in the delivery of high-quality childcare and education in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The role combines hands-on learning in the nursery setting with formal study and training, developing practical skills, professional knowledge, and workplace experience.
Core Responsibilities
1. Childcare and Learning Support
- Support the planning and delivery of engaging, age-appropriate activities that promote children’s learning and development.
- Interact positively with children, encouraging curiosity, communication, and exploration through play.
- Assist in observing and recording children’s progress, under supervision, to contribute to learning journals and assessments.
2. Care and Welfare
- Help meet the physical, emotional, and social needs of children in the setting.
- Assist with personal care tasks, including nappy changing, toileting, feeding, and ensuring comfort and hygiene.
- Follow all safeguarding and health and safety policies to maintain a secure and nurturing environment.
3. Team Collaboration
- Work alongside qualified staff and learn from experienced professionals within the team.
- Contribute to maintaining a clean, tidy, and well-organised learning space, both indoors and outdoors.
- Take part in daily routines, including mealtimes, rest periods, and transitions.
4. Training and Development
- Attend all required off-the-job training sessions and complete coursework, assignments, and assessments in a timely manner.
- Reflect on learning and progress through supervision and mentoring meetings.
- Take responsibility for personal development and actively engage in training opportunities offered by the setting or training provider.
