Job summary
Position: Nursery Chef
Location: Bright Gems Nursery
Contract: Full-time, All Year Round
Hours: Typically 25-30 hours
Role Overview
The Nursery Chef is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving healthy, balanced meals and snacks for young children aged approximately 6 months to 5 years. The chef ensures meals meet nutritional guidelines and food safety standards while supporting children’s dietary needs and allergies.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan weekly menus that are nutritious, balanced, and suitable for young children.
- Prepare and cook fresh meals, snacks, and desserts daily.
- Cater for special dietary requirements and allergies.
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene and kitchen cleanliness in line with Food Standards Agency regulations.
- Manage food ordering, stock control, and kitchen budgets.
- Ensure all food is safely stored, labelled, and prepared.
- Maintain records for allergens and food temperatures.
- Work closely with nursery staff to support children’s healthy eating habits.
- Ensure kitchen equipment is cleaned and maintained.
Skills / Qualifications:
- • Previous experience as a chef or cook
- preferably in a nursery
- school
- or childcare setting.
- • Knowledge of child nutrition
- • Understanding of food hygiene and safety procedures
- • Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 or above) preferred
- • Ability to manage kitchen duties independently
- • Good organisation and time-management skills.
