Job summary

West House School is seeking a confident, nurturing, creative and organised Level 3 qualified Baby Room Leader to lead our Seedlings (under 2s) room and play a key role in our EYFS team. The ideal candidate will be able to create a nurturing and stimulating environment where every child can thrive, guide and support staff in delivering high-quality practice, and build strong, positive relationships with families. This role suits someone proactive and passionate about early childhood development, who can balance hands-on care with effective planning, assessment and teamwork.  The successful candidate will manage the excellent care and provision in the Seedlings room (under 2s), reporting to the Nursery Manager.

Job Description

As Baby Room Leader:

  • Lead the day-to-day running of the Seedlings (under 2s) room, ensuring a nurturing, stimulating and developmentally rich environment
  • Oversee planning, provision and assessment in accordance with the EYFS curriculum and framework, ensuring every child’s needs and interests are met
  • Supervise, coach and inspire room staff, modelling excellent practice and supporting their professional growth
  • Build strong, positive relationships with parents through settling-in processes, ongoing communication and shared assessments
  • Reflect on daily practice and identify opportunities for continual improvement
  • Ensure all policies, procedures and safeguarding expectations are consistently upheld
  • Deploy staff and resources effectively to maintain ratios and high-quality provision
  • Work closely with the Nursery Operations Manager, EYFS SENCO and senior staff to support children’s learning and wellbeing
  • Deputise for the Nursery Operations Manager when required
  • Liaise with outside agencies as appropriate to support children’s development

As an EYFS Practitioner

  • Contribute to planning and delivering engaging, child-centred learning experiences
  • Maintain accurate observations, assessments and records to track progress and identify any learning needs or difficulties
  • Support inclusive practice that celebrates diversity and respects each child’s background and experiences
  • Carry out day-to-day care for pupils, including changing, feeding and managing hygiene
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with children and their families in a way that values parental involvement
  • Help promote the use of ICT across teaching and learning
  • Set up and tidy learning environments, ensuring resources are well-organised and accessible
  • Assist with nursery displays, general administration, photocopying and record keeping
  • Support students and volunteers on placement
  • Work collaboratively with EYFS colleagues, the Head of EYFS and the Headmaster
  • Contribute to a positive, professional atmosphere and act as an ambassador for the school

General Duties

  • To carry out duties and responsibilities of the post in line with the Equal Opportunities Policy and the needs of the school.
  • To carry out playtime and lunchtime duties.
  • To assist in concerts, productions and celebrations within the department.
  • To attend Open Days as required.
  • To attend staff meetings, staff development and training as appropriate.
  • To carry out any other duties which will be seen to enhance the children’s learning and care in the school.
  • To assist in the supervision of out-of-school care
  • To keep all information regarding the school, pupils and staff completely confidential at all times.

This job description is not exhaustive. Other tasks and responsibilities may be allocated as necessary and reasonable from time to time. The school may reasonably request that the role holder carry out their duties in another room in the nursery as required.

Salary: £14.13 - £14.44 per hour, with an additional £750 per annum responsibility allowance

Hours: 40 hours per week with two 6.00pm finishes, with the potential for further hours if desired

Type of position: Permanent, full-time

 Either term-time only, with a requirement to work during Holiday Club for four weeks during the school holidays. Extra shifts during holiday periods will be available.     

Or all year round with 22 days of annual leave plus bank holidays to be taken during school holiday periods

Holidays: Entitlement to 22 days of paid annual leave plus bank holidays.

Start date: As soon as possible.
