Nursery Manager

Job summary

Wee Gems Nursery in Livingston is seeking an experienced and passionate Nursery Manager to lead our early years setting. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the nursery, ensuring high standards of care, education, and safeguarding for all children. The Nursery Manager will lead and support the staff team, maintain regulatory compliance, and create a safe, stimulating environment where children can thrive.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the daily operation of the nursery and ensure a high-quality childcare environment.
• Lead, motivate, and support the nursery staff team, including supervision, training, and performance management.
• Ensure the nursery complies with all Care Inspectorate standards, policies, and procedures.
• Manage staff rotas, recruitment, and professional development.
• Maintain effective communication with parents, carers, and external agencies.
• Ensure high standards of safeguarding, health and safety, and wellbeing.
• Monitor and support the delivery of the Curriculum for Excellence and early years frameworks.
• Manage nursery budgets, resources, and occupancy levels.
• Maintain accurate records, policies, and regulatory documentation.
• Promote a positive and inclusive nursery culture.

Requirements

• SVQ Level 4 in Social Services (Children and Young People) or equivalent qualification.
• Registration (or eligibility to register) with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).
• Proven experience in an early years leadership or management role.
• Strong knowledge of Care Inspectorate standards and early years legislation.
• Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Desirable

• Experience managing nursery inspections and improvement plans.
• First Aid and Child Protection training.
• Experience with nursery management systems and administration.
