Acting Nursery Manager (Maternity Cover)

Job summary

Purpose: Lead the nursery, ensuring high-quality childcare, smooth operations, and staff support while maintaining compliance with EYFS and statutory regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the day-to-day running of the nursery, ensuring children, parents, and staff work together effectively.
• Set, implement, and monitor nursery goals, ensuring all tasks set by Directors are completed.
• Manage staff, including inductions, appraisals, training, performance, and disciplinary matters.
• Maintain high standards of care and compliance with EYFS, Health & Safety, and safeguarding.
• Manage budgets, fees, payroll, and occupancy targets.
• Lead parent evenings, open days, and other nursery events.
• Ensure timely and professional handling of all emails and communications.
• Maintain and update nursery policies, procedures, and operational records.
• Oversee marketing and waiting list management to achieve occupancy targets.
• Organise staff training and monitor its effectiveness.
• Ensure the nursery environment is safe, clean, and well-maintained.

Requirements

• Proven experience in nursery management or a senior leadership role.
• Strong understanding of EYFS, childcare legislation, and statutory requirements.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to manage budgets, staff, and operational targets effectively.
• Strong problem-solving, organisational, and time-management skills.
• A minimum Level 3 in Early Years or equivalent
