Job summary

Are you passionate about early years education and ready to take the next step in your childcare career? We’re looking for a dedicated Deputy Nursery Manager to join the team at our new nursery in North London.

Job Overview

As Deputy Manager, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality childcare in line with the EYFS framework and our nursery’s values. You will support the Manager in the day-to-day operations of the setting, lead on quality improvement initiatives, and mentor staff, students, and apprentices.

Line Manager: Nursery Manager
Responsible For: Apprentices, students, and volunteers as assigned

Key Responsibilities

Monitoring & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate daily records including registers, accident/incident reports, and medication forms
  • Ensure full compliance with all statutory requirements and nursery policies
  • Promote and deliver the EYFS framework throughout the setting

Staffing & Supervision

  • Oversee record-keeping and tracking of children's progress in baby and toddler rooms
  • Support with the induction and supervision of students and volunteers
  • Assist the Manager with staff supervisions, appraisals, and identifying training needs

Operational Duties

  • Deputise for the Manager when required
  • Ensure the nursery is clean, safe, welcoming, and child-centred
  • Support daily planning and smooth running of the nursery environment
  • Conduct closing checks and ensure rooms are ready for the following day
  • Build strong partnerships with families and work collaboratively with staff

Key Person Role

  • Plan and deliver high-quality learning opportunities
  • Maintain a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment
  • Complete observations and assessments for key children
  • Foster positive relationships and support children’s individual needs

General Responsibilities

Person Specification

Essential

  • Level 3 or higher qualification in Childcare
  • Experience in a play-based early years environment
  • Understanding of child development and EYFS principles
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to lead and support staff effectively
  • Proficient with IT and administrative tasks
  • Current Paediatric First Aid and Safeguarding certificates (within 1 year)
  • Organised, dependable, calm under pressure

Desirable

  • Food Hygiene Certificate
  • Fluency in a second or community language
  • Experience delivering staff inductions and supervision
