Nursery Chef/Cook

Job summary

We are looking for a confident, experienced Chef/Cook to work as part of the kitchen team at our nursery.

We prepare fresh food for children aged 6 months to 5 years, taking into account dietary requirements, allergies & intolerences, preferences and stages of weaning. We offer breakfast, lunch and tea, as well as fresh fruit and vegetables for snacks mid-morning and mid-afternoon.

We have a three week rolling menu which includes nutritious and varied dishes made from scratch. We source our food locally; from a greengrocers on Blackstock Road, a farm butcher and local fishmongers.

We are looking for someone with a current basic food hygiene certificate; or willing to renew theirs with us, knowledge of the requirements of cooking for young children and a passion for preparing healthy and nutritious food.  You have to be prepared to assist the nursery in keeping up to date with all current health and hygiene rules and legislation.

Duties include ensuring all food is adequately stored and rotated according to date, temperatures of prepared food are checked and recorded on temperature charts, ensuring fridges and freezers are at correct temperature, helping to manage a small group of dinner supervisors and liasing with the Assistant Chef who is on hand to help with meal prep. You will also help with managing stock for orders and get involved in updating the menu with new and interesting seasonal dishes.

The hours we are currently looking for are as follows:

Tuesdays and Wednesday 8am - 5.30pm

Fridays 9.30am - 5.30pm

Other hours may be available, by arrangement.
