Job summary
Hurlingham Nursery School is seeking a highly motivated, qualified Early Years Practitioner (Teaching Assistant)to inspire children in our outstanding, nurturing and dynamic environment for 2 to 4 year olds in Putney. This recognition builds on our recent Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) judgement of a ‘Significant Strength’ for our Early Years provision.
Our practice not only covers all aspects of the Early Years’ Foundation Stage comprehensively, but also goes far beyond it. At Hurlingham Nursery, we ensure pupils are ready to embrace each and every opportunity that will come their way during future years in our linked preparatory school. Children learn primarily through play, enjoying a combination of teacher-initiated and child-led activities. Our stimulating and caring environment ensures children feel secure and valued. This exceptionally friendly and nurturing setting makes the transition from home to school as easy as possible. Our four most important points of focus in the nursery and pre-school years are socialisation, confidence, literacy and numeracy.
Role: The responsibilities and duties of a Teaching Assistant are as follows:
- Gain knowledge of all children in the setting in order to identify their personal, emotional and physical needs
- Encourage good manners, co-operation and positive behaviour in all children
- Notify Class Teacher of incidents and concerns regarding children
- Provide intimate care to children whenever necessary (for example changing nappies)
- Abide by all Health and Safety procedures and report any concerns regarding Health and Safety immediately to the Head of Nursery or Head
- Abide by the school’s Safeguarding Policy and procedures and report any concerns regarding safeguarding immediately to the Head of Nursery as DSL, Deputy Head of Nursery or Head
Teaching and Learning
- Assist in the educational development of pupils under the direction and guidance of the Class Teacher, Head of Nursery and the Head
- Provide support for individual pupils in class, outdoors and during specialist sessions to enable them to participate fully in activities
- Support specific individuals or groups as requested by the teacher
- Have knowledge of the daily planning and activities involving the pupils
- Assist Teachers with maintaining pupil records, including pupil observations
Administrative duties
- Prepare and present displays of children’s work
- Support class teachers in photocopying and other tasks in order to support teaching
- Assist in maintaining an orderly classroom
- Maintain classroom equipment
- Supervise pre-break and pre-lunch washrooms
- Check washrooms for potential hazards and adequate supplies
- Keep cloakroom area organised
- Assist during playground and park duties as dictated by rotas
- Undertake other duties from time to time as directed by the Head of Nursery
Standards and quality assurance
- Promote the aims and ethos of the school at all times
- Set a good example in terms of appearance, punctuality and attendance
- Attend regular meetings with class teacher and year group
- Attend INSET days at start and end of term
- Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety
