Training at an early years bootcamp
A man who gained a theology and philosophy degree has joined the nursery sector to “help children develop”.
With a 2:1 degree in Theology and Philosophy degree at the University of Exeter, graduate Ali Noor started work as a nursery assistant at Kiddi Caru Day Nursery and Pre-School in Sowton, after training at an early years bootcamp.
Ali Noor said: “Working in education or early years was always one of my big career options when I was young and over the last couple of years at university, the desire to work in the sector grew stronger.
“When I completed my degree, I was struggling to make much progress and kept getting turned away due to a lack of experience.
“I can’t wait to get started with Kiddi Caru and help children develop during those important early years.”
Run by training provider Realise, Skills bootcamps help people who have never worked in a nursery before to get the skills they need for the job.
Guaranteed interview
Those who complete the early years Skills Bootcamp will be guaranteed an interview for a job with a local nursery, They will also automatically be eligible to start a Level 3 apprenticeship when they secure employment.
Mr Noor said: “Starting the Skills Bootcamp changed everything. It was a six-week online course and gave me all the skills I needed to start working in the early years sector. It certainly helped my confidence when I went to the interview.”
People completing a bootcamp also get career coaches and enhanced DBS checks during training.
The training provider aims to create dozens of new recruits to the sector in Devon via its Skills Bootcamps which anyone can apply for
Ali is helping address a nationwide shortage of males working in early years – as only 2% of the workforce are men.
Ali added: “Nurseries seem friendly and inviting environments. I’m looking forward to joining a team dedicated to helping the children develop”.
