I’ve worked in Early Years for almost 30 years in a range of roles - from practitioner to manager, Speech and Language LSA, Nanny and Early Years Advisor. I went straight from school to college to gain my NNEB Diploma, and later completed my NVQ Level 4 and SENCO qualification. Supporting children, especially those with SEND, has always been my passion - I’ve seen how the right support can truly transform a child’s confidence and development. I love being part of Step Start, where I get to lead a dedicated team and help shape children’s early experiences.
I studied Early Childhood Studies in Belfast before moving to England, where I became Head of Early Years in a private school in Hampstead, a role I absolutely loved! After relocating to Witham, I was excited to find a position closer to home and joined the amazing team at Step Start. I’ve always wanted to work with children, and during my training I realised my heart was in Early Years.
I started my Level 3 Childcare Diploma at 16 and have loved being part of the Early Years ever since. I’m passionate about helping little ones discover their personalities, build confidence, and learn to love who they are. Watching our babies grow and thrive is the most rewarding part of my day. I’m known for my calm and nurturing nature.
I began my journey studying for my Level 2 and 3 qualifications in a mainstream nursery, and after gaining experience I decided to explore SEN in a specialist school. After a few years, I started my next chapter with Step Start, where I’ve really found my feet. I adore all of the children I work with and love supporting their wellbeing and development. I’m part of a great, enthusiastic team in First Steps, with an amazing management team, and I take pride in the strong relationships I’ve built with parents and families. I love the settling process, getting to know each child, their likes and dislikes, and helping them grow.
I started at Step Start completing my Level 3 qualification through an apprenticeship. After this, I was excited to take on a Room Leader role and push myself further, working across both First Steps and Little Leaps. I am passionate about creating positive and enriching environments for children, as I believe this has a big impact on their emotional regulation and behaviour. The children are the best part of the job, they teach you just as much as you teach them! I also love the family feel at Step Start and how it is always growing and evolving.
I’ve been working in childcare for 16 years, both in nursery settings and as a nanny in family homes. I absolutely love what I do, there’s nothing better than watching children grow and develop each day. Step Start is such a special place to work, with an incredible team and a fun, nurturing environment where children can truly thrive. I’m all about getting creative with the children, especially when it involves messy, sensory crafts!
