I qualified as a Level 3 practitioner back when I was 19… quite a few years ago now! I’ve always found it incredible to watch babies grow into toddlers and preschoolers, knowing I’ve played a part in that journey, it’s so rewarding. Fun fact: I’ve never actually left this building! I’ve worked for 4 different nurseries, all within these same walls, and it’s been amazing to see how things have evolved over the years. I’m passionate about giving children real-life, hands-on experiences they might not get elsewhere.
I began my career in childcare at 16, gaining my Level 2 and 3 qualifications before moving into management in 2010. Along the way, I completed a Foundation Degree and a BA Honours in Early Years. After taking time out to raise my children, I spent seven years in a local school, progressing to SEN Welfare LSA and Lexia Lead - roles I loved and learned so much from. I joined Step Start as a Room Leader, and since then have progressed into the role of Deputy Manager. I’m passionate about giving children rich, creative learning experiences and encouraging a love of reading. I’m bright, bubbly, and always up for making learning fun!
At the age of 16, I went to college to gain my Level 3 qualification in childcare. I then went on to study at Anglia Ruskin University, where I achieved a BA (Hons) in Primary Education Studies, followed by a further year to gain my PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status. I chose this career because I find it incredibly rewarding and love seeing children progress and develop. What I enjoy most about working at Step Start is the family feel. We become like an extension of the children’s families and build strong, meaningful relationships. I also love having fun with the team, as no two days are ever the same. I especially enjoy singing, dancing and getting involved in messy play with the babies.
I’ve been in childcare since 2001 and always knew this was the career for me - even at school, I was inspired by my own playgroup teacher and wanted to offer children the same joy and opportunities she gave me. I’ve completed a BTEC National Diploma and a Foundation Degree in Early Years, and spent 18 years managing nurseries. Now, I love being back on the floor, getting hands-on with gloop, paint, and stories throughout the day. I’m passionate about giving every child the best start, surrounded by warmth, support, and plenty of smiles.
I have been working in nurseries for six years, and during this time I have completed a variety of courses, as I am always eager to build my knowledge and provide the best support for every child. I love the relationships I have built with the children throughout my journey so far, and I feel lucky to work alongside such a supportive team who always give their all. I especially enjoy messy play and getting creative with the children, whether that’s water play or cooking, and I am passionate about supporting children who need extra help to ensure everyone has equal opportunities.
I started my journey with Step Start as an apprentice, and I’m now a proud Level 3 practitioner and Room Leader. I love watching the children grow in confidence, learn new skills, and blossom into their own little personalities. Getting to know each child’s interests and encouraging their independence is one of my favourite parts of the job.
