Darrington CE Primary & Nursery offers early education and care in a friendly setting called Team Acorns and Team Saplings. Since opening in September 2014, the nursery has created a lively place where children learn by exploring, playing, and taking part in activities that match their interests and needs.
The Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum is delivered through fun, engaging activities. Caring staff support children as they learn. Both indoor and outdoor spaces are open all day, so children can choose where to play and learn, whatever the weather.
Nursery places are available during term time. Morning sessions are available from 8:45 am to 11:45 am, afternoon sessions from 12:15 pm to 3:15 pm, and full days from 8:45 am to 3:15 pm. Children can start from age three, either on a paid basis or with funded places after their third birthday. The nursery provides 15 hours of government-funded childcare, and some families may be able to access up to 30 hours per week. Extra hours can be booked if available at £6 per hour.
The nursery also offers wrap-around care, with Breakfast Club starting from 7:30 am to 8:45 am at an additional charge of £7. After-school club provision with the following sessions: 3.15 pm to 4.15 pm - partial session with healthy snacks provided at an additional charge of £6.50; 3.15 pm to 5:30 pm - full session with a light meal provided at approximately 4.30 pm at an additional charge of £12
A typical day at Nursery includes registration, rhyme time, early phonics, interactive maths, singing, movement, and plenty of stories. Children enjoy a healthy snack and milk. Yoga, breathing exercises, and mindfulness sessions also help children build emotional awareness and self-control. The aim is to help every child become a confident, curious, and enthusiastic learner.

Every family can claim 15 universal funded hours a week for 3 to 4 year olds, and working parents can usually claim up to 30 funded hours. My Daughter has been attending Darrington CE nursery since September 2025 and is due to move into reception in September 2026. She has loved her time is Miss Loveday's class. It is a true testament to how good the nursery is that not once has my daughter said she doesn't want to go, and she attends 5 days a week. The experiences she has had there will last her a life time, and she has grown so much thanks to all the wonderful staff at Darrington CE.

My daughter loves attending the pre school nursery. She's settled so well and loves the routine, loves the teachers and other students and comes home with so many lovely stories from her day. The school and teachers plan such lovely activities for the children to bring their learning to life such as watching ducklings hatch, arranging for a farmer to come to school with his tractor, arranging for a policeman to come with his police car, a bee keeper with a special suit for them to try, special stay and plays where my daughter is excited to show me where she plays and what she enjoys to do at school. She really has flourished and whilst there is a main focus about learning through play which is key there is also focus on preparing my daughter for reception through phonics sounds which she is excited to show us what she has learnt when she comes home.

From when she first started to now all teachers have been warm, welcoming, and genuinely invested in her development. Our daughter has grown so much in confidence, social skills, and independence since starting here. The range of activities is fantastic-creative play, outdoor time, and early learning are all thoughtfully planned and engaging.

I would recommend Darrington's nursery to any parent. My eldest daughter thrived here, my middle daughter loves it, and I will certainly be sending my youngest once she turns 3 years old. The staff are friendly and very supportive of the children. The facilities and activities are extensive. I love the "stay and play" sessions that parents are invited to attend. The balance of learning and play in this setting is very constructive to the children's development and setting them up for an easier transition into reception. The core nursery hours (8:40 - 3:15) work for my family, which is considerably cheaper than private nursery options, but the extended hours are available as and when we need them. My children really like the breakfast club which starts from 8:10am, and the school also offer special afterschool clubs (e.g. decorating the Christmas tree, and Christmas party).
