  • Norfolk House Nursery, Newport
Norfolk House Nursery has been welcoming families in Newport since 1989 and is proud to be one of the city’s most established childcare providers. Nestled within two beautiful Victorian buildings on Caerau Road, the nursery combines a homely setting with carefully designed spaces that inspire learning, play, and discovery. Families often describe the environment as a 'home away from home', where children are cared for with warmth, patience, and respect.

The nursery follows the Welsh Early Years Curriculum, placing play and exploration at the heart of every day. The experienced team supports each child as an individual, helping them to grow in confidence, creativity, and independence. From babies as young as 12 weeks through to children preparing for school, the nursery ensures every stage of development is nurtured - socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively.

Parents can feel reassured that their children are in safe hands. The team’s approach is rooted in strong values of kindness and inclusivity, where every child is encouraged to thrive and feel a sense of belonging. Daily routines are thoughtfully structured to provide both comfort and challenge, giving children the best start in life while building positive relationships with staff and peers.

To support families, the nursery offers access to funding schemes such as Flying Start, the Childcare Offer, and educational funding, as well as accepting tax-free childcare payments. This helps make high-quality care more affordable and accessible to many households.
With its long-standing reputation, caring staff, and commitment to high standards, Norfolk House Nursery is a trusted choice for parents looking for a safe, loving, and stimulating environment where children can flourish.

Our son has been attending Norfolk House Nursery for over a year and a half, and we are now about to send our daughter there too, which says everything about our experience.

It has been brilliant. Our son genuinely gets excited talking about nursery, his teachers and his friends, and has built lovely

connections. We've been really impressed with how much he has learnt, from speech and confidence to counting, colours and general knowledge. He often comes home talking about new things he's learnt, and loves singing the nursery rhymes and songs they've taught him.

The staff are always friendly and welcoming, and the stay and play sessions give a great insight into daily life. Every visit feels positive, with happy children and kind staff.

We're really looking forward to our daughter starting.

Reply from Yatin Mianger, Director at Norfolk House NurseryThank you so much for your wonderful review and for trusting Norfolk House Nursery with both of your children. Hearing that your son is excited to come to nursery and enjoys talking about his teachers, friends and the things he is learning truly means a lot to our team. Supporting children's confidence, communication and early learning is exactly what we aim to nurture every day.
We're also delighted that you have enjoyed the stay and play sessions and the welcoming atmosphere in the nursery. It's always lovely for parents to see first-hand the positive environment we work hard to create for children here in Newport.
We are really looking forward to welcoming your daughter soon and continuing to support both of your children on their early years learning journey with us.

Norfolk house has had a great impact on my son! He has attended the nursery for three years and has recently moved to the preschool. The staff in each room have been cheerful, caring and given clear communication about his needs. Queries have been dealt with promptly and termly reports are very detailed
with a personal touch. The biggest impact I see, is in my son's enthusiasm to see the adults who care for him each day. He beams as he talks about the people who care for him, which is a positive reflection on the atmosphere that's created. The care he has received in each room has been consistent and the nursery are quick to contact if children have a slight accident or become unwell. The nursery are often adding resources and making developments to their learning areas and have provided some lovely experiences such as cooking classes. I am pleased with the care my son has received and would recommend Norfolk house to others.

My son started in January and has loved every moment of it. He settled in really quickly and asks to go to nursery everyday!! They keep you really informed with information on your child, and things going on in the nursery. The staff are really approachable, and make time to speak to you at the door
about any concerns or requests. They are kind and friendly and plan lovely craft activities, and other activities for the children to do. They even do stay and plays there too which is lovely to go and spend time with my son in nursery and see what they do. The menus are always lovely with interesting foods that are homemade. The nursery always looks clean, tidy and well organised.
Reply from Yatin Mianger, Director at Norfolk House NurseryGlad he is having a lovely time at the nursery. We do love our stay and plays and feel this really gives parents a good feel of what their child experiences at the nursery.

We love Norfolk house, our daughter started just after one year old and is almost the. The girls there are really caring, nice detailed handover daily, reports at end of term.
Never had any concerns, she wants to go every day and loves the time that she spends there. We've seen her learn and develop
over the past 2 years and it's been wonderful.

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.835)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.835) out of 10 for Norfolk House Nursery is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.9 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.967 for Norfolk House Nursery is calculated as follows: ( (58 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 4.967
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.868 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Norfolk House Nursery is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 68 number of registered child places is 13.6. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 13.6 = 0.368
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
