Our daughter attended Castle View Nursery in Chester-le-Street briefly in 2025. Although the nursery appears professional, our experience raised serious safeguarding concerns.
We received a call saying "something had happened" but staff were unsure what and reassured us it was nothing to worry about.

When we arrived, our daughter was distressed with one significant bite and multiple scratches. The nursery's incident form states staff were "not sure what happened" and only became aware after hearing her cry, indicating a lack of direct supervision.
We later learned similar incidents involving the same child had previously been recorded and that additional supervision was being sought but was not yet in place.
While we understand young children can bite, effective supervision is essential where risks are known. We found the management response defensive rather than supportive and hope this feedback encourages stronger safeguarding practices.

Reply from Lucy Healer, Manager at Castle View Private Day NurseryShortly after the incident referred to, Ofsted contacted the nursery as they had received a complaint detailing the issues raised in this review.
Ofsted visited the nursery and spent three hours with the management team investigating what they eventually concluded was a malicious complaint.
They looked at incident forms, staff supervision and safeguarding practices.
The nursery was deemed to have gone above and beyond what was required to safeguard the children in its care.
Following the investigation into the incident, Ofsted closed the case down with no recommendations made.
We have 9 staff every day who are not included in ratios, one is a full-time forest school lead.
We are set in 2.3 acers of grounds that the children can play in. Our meat and milk is organic and all meals are hand prepared and cooked on site by two full time cooks.
We have three qualified primary teachers, 1/3 of our staff have been here more than 10 years and every member of staff is first aid trained.
