Stepping Stones Day Nursery in Okehampton provides a warm and nurturing environment for children aged four months to five years. It is a place where every child is supported to feel happy, secure, and valued.

The dedicated team of practitioners fosters each child’s personal, social, and emotional development. This includes helping children to regulate emotions, understand behaviours, and form positive relationships. These important life skills underpin all areas of development and are enhanced through engaging, play-based activities and carefully selected resources.

Staff closely observe each child’s progress, creating personalised plans that cater to their individual needs and pace of learning. Each age-specific room benefits from its own garden, complete with covered outdoor areas, ensuring children can play and explore whatever the weather.

Stepping Stones is proud to be an inclusive nursery, celebrating diversity and supporting children with English as an Additional Language (EAL). Additional opportunities such as Spanish lessons for preschoolers and sing-and-sign sessions for babies further enrich the experiences offered to every child.

My son has taken to all nurseries staff fantastically here settled in. They are great with him. Couldn't ask her anymore. He attendance five days a week. He is always well cared for and looked at her and always comes out happy.

Both of my children have attended Stepping Stones since they were 1 year old. All of the staff across all the rooms have been so attentive and caring as each child goes through their milestones. My children run into nursery most days, excited to play! They love all the different activities and especially
playing in the outdoor areas.
On the hard mornings when I am taking 2 tired toddlers into nursery, the staff are always so understanding and kind - I really appreciate it! I definitely recommend Stepping Stones, it is a brilliant, friendly, welcoming place and I have always felt comfortable taking my children there.

Our baby started nursery at 10 months. I was impressed from the start - the settling in sessions, the key worker, the facilities have all been great. My baby had some challenges with feeding from a bottle to begin with, but all the staff persevered, and her key worker in particular has been fantastic.
Communication is good, and I feel happy and confident dropping my baby off each time. She was sad to start with, but after a couple of months there are no tears and she seems to have a lovely time. I really enjoy seeing the observations on the app and feel like my baby is in safe hands. The food seems great, lots of variety too. Would recommend Stepping Stones :)

As a father of three, that have and still are attending, I would rate Steeping Stones nursery 5 star.
The staff are always friendly and helpful, providing detailed feedback about my children's day at every pickup. This information is supplemented with an app which the staff add photos and activity
update to.In each of the age specific rooms my children are welcomed warmly and are excited to start their day.
As the year progresses new activities and themes are introduced which allows structured play to take place. The availability of outdoor space is great and having a range of different surfaces means the outdoor space can be used all year round.
Overall I'm very happy with the nursery and will continue sending my children there till they are of school age.

My daughter comes to stepping stones nursery. She absolutely loves coming to nursery and loves all the staff that works there. She has learnt so much since coming to stepping stones. She has made lots of friends and looks forward every week to going back.

My daughter has been at Stepping Stones since September 2024. The staff are brilliant and she really enjoys going to nursery. She has lots of fantastic learning experiences which has aided her development in many areas. My daughter is settled and happy there which is testament to the caring and nurturing

Stepping Stones is a fantastic nursery and my little girl loves going there.
All staff are wonderfully pleasant and the management are top knotch.
Nothing is ever too much.

My son has been here since he was 5 months old, and is nearly 3. The staff all show such great care, are engaged, enthusiastic and attentive. My son has so much fun here, and will often talk about the things he has done during his day!
I receive regular updates from his key worker, on his progress.
Highly recommended.

Job Title: Nursery Manager

Hi, I’m Laura. I have worked across all areas of the nursery, progressing from Room Leader to Deputy Manager before becoming Nursery Manager. This experience has given me a strong understanding of children’s development and daily nursery life.


I am passionate about creating a welcoming environment where children, families and staff all feel valued, and I love seeing children engaged in the rich learning opportunities throughout the nursery.


Outside of nursery life, I live locally with my husband and our two boys. As a family, we share a love of Disney, and I also enjoy playing in a brass band, something I have done since the age of 11.

Hayley Adams

Job Title: Nursery Manager

Hi, I’m Hayley. My passion for early years began when I was young, babysitting for friends and family. I studied at Okehampton College Sixth Form, where I gained my Level 2 qualification, before joining Stepping Stones and completing my Level 3.


I have worked across many areas of the nursery, progressing through roles including Team Leader and Assistant Manager before becoming Nursery Manager and SENDCo. This experience has given me a strong understanding of supporting both children and families at every stage.


I am passionate about helping children grow in confidence, develop new skills and build a love of learning, while also supporting our staff team to achieve their goals.


Outside of nursery life, I live with my husband and our two boys, and as a family we enjoy spending time together watching and supporting football.
