  • Guinea Lane Nursery, Bath
Guinea Lane Nursery is a small friendly nursery situated opposite Hedgemead Park close to Bath city centre in a beautiful Grade II listed building.

The nursery provides high-quality care and education for children aged from three months to five years, 51 weeks of the year. Open from 7.30 am until 6.30 pm Monday to Friday, Guinea Lane Nursery offers a range of flexible attendance schedules including full day, school days and morning and afternoon sessions, both all year round and term time only.

Children have access to a range of exciting learning experiences and opportunities, provided across four bright rooms that cater to different age ranges. The rooms are set up with low-level shelving so children can access resources independently, make choices about what they want to play with and where they want to play developing their confidence as independent learners.

They are supported in their endeavours by a team of highly qualified and experienced early years practitioners. There is a small outdoor area that provides different outdoor play experiences and the forest school leader takes the pre-school children out to the woods while the toddlers have fun doing 'muddy puddle' walks in the local park.

The nursery has recently been awarded accreditation by the Early Years Nutrition Partnership (October 2018) for its commitment to providing children with healthy meals and snacks and to encouraging children to learn about healthy lifestyles and the importance of making healthier choices.

My son has only been able to attend Guinea Lane Nursery for a brief time due to a move, but I cannot speak highly enough of his time there. The staff are attentive and friendly, as well as caring. The food sounds amazing - I sometimes get a bit envious of everything he has had to eat in a day. The facilities
are wonderful, and my son clearly has an amazing time there from start to finish each day - sometimes I think he doesn't want to leave! It's wonderful to see photos of him enjoying himself as well, it makes it much easier to go to work knowing that he is having a great time.

Could not be more positive about the experience we've had at Guinea Lane. Our son attended for 2.5 years and every step of the way he's really enjoyed it, been well supported and developed loads. The staff are amazing. The activities are varied and imaginative. The food is great. And the information
you get as a parent is really comprehensive.
Thank you so much Guineas! We will miss you.

My daughter has attended Guinea Lane Nursery since December 2020. As a family, we have really enjoyed every aspect of the nursery. The staff are really caring and the children are entertained throughout the day. Can't recommend it enough! Everything has been so easy.

I can’t praise Guinea Lane Nursery and its staff enough. My son attended for 9 months once the nurseries reopened in 2020, and he always had a great time. He loved the staff and created wonderful bonds with them. They really engage in fun activities and really helped my son grow in confidence. The nursery
itself is immaculately clean, organised and they prepare fresh food every day which provides a really varied and delicious range which also helped my son try different things. The daily reports are great and their overall communication and support throughout the pandemic was faultless. Great nursery all around, would highly recommend.

Our little boy began attending Guinea Lane nursery when he was 11 months old, and we gradually increased the days he attended (partly out of necessity but also because they offer so many more activities than we could ever achieve at home and it was clear he loves it)!
We can tell that he has absolutely
thrived at Guinea Lane and he's so excited every morning when he sees one particular lady and the other staff members. We are genuinely sad that he won't be able to attend anymore (we are relocating out of the area).
Thank you so much to all the staff at Guinea Lane, we have been delighted with the leaps and bounds he has made by attending nursery, every time he comes home it seems like he has made another developmental milestone!
We have loved the app which shows photographs as well as keeping us up to date with how his day is going, what new foods he is enjoying etc. (Thank you for accommodating a vegan toddler)!

Both children have gone through the ranks at Guinea Lane Nursery over the course of the past six years and I can honestly say I couldn’t have done it without them. The team there are so friendly and helpful - nothing is too much trouble and they are very responsive to the needs of both parent and child.
The nursery itself is set up in such a way as to benefit from the sight and sounds of many children but still keep them in small groups for very close care and observation by the staff there. Wholeheartedly recommended.

This is a truly amazing little nursery.
All the carers are very well informed regarding each child's development and everyone can usually give me information regarding my son's day.
The best part for my son is, that the group in the toddler room go out on adventures all the time. They have been
on trips to the city farm, train station, fire station, Victoria Park and various other parks and play grounds I don't even know about. They even do their own shopping when they are planning to bake a cake for a child's or carer's birthday. And then they bake the cake together.
The time before the toddler room when my son was in the baby room from 9 months old onward was equally amazing. There was so much messy play and crafts going on. I just couldn't do the same at home.
And the food - the chef is great and really creative. The amount of work she puts into the menu and into themed food for Christmas, Halloween or easter is inspiring. Guinea Lane is a great place for your little one!

My children love going to the nursery for each session as they always have a variety of activities and trips.
The staff are brilliant, always happy in the morning and engage with us straight away and give a daily report when collecting the children of exactly how they have been.

The variety of

books and toys are great for helping children develop their playing and learning. My children have both developed new skills and the work the nursery staff do is brilliant.

Guinea Lane is a small nursery with a family feeling. The same staff who look after my 2 year old son, were there 3 years ago when my daughter came to this nursery. The quality of care is very high. The atmosphere is a happy one. The children come home happy every day with lots of stories to tell.
Having your children cared for and given so many creative and exploring experiences is priceless. The staff here are wonderful and genuinely care and bond with the children.

I am very pleased with the overall standard of care. I feel the staff are friendly to myself and daily feedback is very honest and can be productive. When my daughter gets upset she gets the extra attention she craves with all staff. The resources are good and the garden space provides a wide range
of opportunities for imaginative play and bikes. We love their mud kitchen. I was very pleased with how much attention was paid to my daughter's interests - they bought Superhero dressing up because she likes them.

Due to work and circumstances we have moved around the country and the world quite a bit and I have never been so happy with a nursery as we are with Guinea Lane.
My daughter who is 4 now comes home very happy and has made very good friends in there.

The staff are so friendly and polite, well spoken

and caring that you feel it's all a big family, not as other nursery's that it's to maximise earning potential and neglecting the kids.

The food and cleanliness is outstanding and my daughter and I will be very sad to have to leave such an amazing place to start school.

I highly recommend it from all aspects and to be honest they have treated me and my family very warmly, caring and professional way.

A very content family :)

Current Review Score: 8.4 (8.398)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.4 (8.398) out of 10 for Guinea Lane Nursery is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.5 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.889 for Guinea Lane Nursery is calculated as follows: ( (32 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 36 Ratings = 4.889
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.509 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Guinea Lane Nursery is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 58 number of registered child places is 11.6. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 11.6 = 0.259
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
