Nightingales Nursery, SFX College

Nightingales Nursery, located within the secure grounds of Saint Francis Xavier Sixth Form College, is a welcoming, family-centred setting serving South West London. Established in 1994, it provides a nurturing environment where every child receives individual attention. Situated opposite Clapham Common, it is a five-minute walk from Clapham South Underground Station and 15 minutes from Balham railway station.

With six qualified practitioners caring for up to 20 children, Nightingales Nursery fosters positive relationships with families and supports each child's wellbeing and development. Special care is taken as children settle into nursery life, with parents regularly updated on progress.

Learning through play is central to the nursery’s approach. Following the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, activities encourage curiosity, communication, cooperation, independence, and problem-solving. Staff observe and assess each child’s progress to plan experiences suited to individual interests and needs.

The spacious outdoor garden features play equipment, balancing activities, and a quiet reading corner. Children learn about nature by planting and caring for the vegetable patch. Additional benefits include sports tuition and freshly prepared, home-cooked meals.

Partnership with parents is highly valued. Families are encouraged to participate in storytelling, cooking, creative activities, outings, and celebrations. Daily feedback, monthly newsletters, and regular parent meetings ensure open communication and support learning between home and nursery. The nursery also offers training opportunities for future early years practitioners from local colleges.

Open 51 weeks a year, from 8am to 6pm, Nightingales Nursery provides a safe, caring, and stimulating environment where children can flourish, build confidence, and develop a strong foundation for lifelong learning. Read less
