Maria Montessori School - Hampstead

The Maria Montessori School in Hampstead is in a Victorian building with a large garden. Children aged 2.5-6 years can attend one of the two Montessori Children’s Houses - the Garden Class or the Coach House. Many children go on to the elementary classes for 6-12-year-olds and the newly established Montessori Adolescent programme for 12-16 year olds in the same building.

The popular school is well-known locally and often operates a waiting list. It offers AMI Montessori – an authentic approach to Montessori education which responds to the child and helps them to develop into a well-rounded and content individual inspired by learning. The children are happy, caring and full of curiosity.

The children work with Montessori materials that are inspired to ignite children’s love of learning and build concrete understanding of mathematical concepts and language. The highly-skilled AMI (Association Montessori Internationale) teachers carefully observe each child giving them the support they need and encouraging them to explore their interests from painting to animals to Physics.

The on-site chef offers a hearty and varied menu with British produce. The children take turns being responsible for serving and clearing up after lunch.

There is lots of support for parents with presentations and discussions on the Montessori approach and opportunities to visit in the school.

The school was set up in 1964 and is part of the organisation that runs the UK’s only AMI training centre.
