Founded originally in 1948 by Phyllis Wallbank, Gatehouse School has its roots in the pioneering educational philosophies of Montessori. While its birthplace was modest, the move to Sewardstone Road in Bethnal Green brought the school into a beautifully renovated historic building, taking advantage of Victorian architecture with modern extensions. This sense of tradition, combined with a willingness to innovate, is part of what gives the school its distinctive character. From a Montessori-inspired beginning through to being a highly regarded inclusive independent prep today, Gatehouse balances respect for the past and an eye to tomorrow. Poised for the future with strong leadership and a clear mission, Gatehouse continues its proud tradition of supporting every child's growth and development.
