Sean works in Dunky’s Runcorn nursery, which is rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted.

We had a chat with Sean, 19, a Level 2 Practitioner, about what he loves about working at Dunky’s and why he wanted a career in childcare.

What do you love about your job? I love working with children and seeing them learn new skills and make friends during their time with us.

What’s one of your best moments? I was really proud to complete my Level 2 qualification. Equivalent to GCSE, the training course means I’m qualified to work and interact directly with children on a day-to-day basis supporting the planning of and delivery of activities.

What is your favourite Dunky’s lunch? It’s got to be Chicken a la King – a good old fashioned classic.

What did you want to be when you were a child? I was quite keen on being Daphne from Scooby Doo.

Why did you decide to go for a job in childcare? Both of my sisters love it, so I thought I would go for it too.

Describe your job in a couple of words I enjoy being a good role model for children to learn from and look up to.

Describe a typical day at Dunky’s I set up inspiring activities, supervise and care for the children and help to create an enriched language filled environment for them.

What’s the best part of working for Dunky’s? I just love the great team we have here at Runcorn.

What advice would you give to people looking for a career in childcare? Make sure you get a feel for the atmosphere and how the team works. I really like working at Dunky's because it feels like a family, Dunky's has helped me learn and grow, developing confidence and self esteem. I like helping the preschoolers learn new things, watching them grow and develop with my support. I like making my team members laugh, our job can be quite challenging at times and I like being able to remind everyone why we do what we do and to keep smiling on through the tough times!.
