Thank you for your review and letting us know that we are a solidly good nursery, I’m very pleased that overall, you have come to this conclusion. However, I am saddened to not have had the opportunity whilst you were with us at Childsplay to address the concerns you highlight. If you would prefer to discuss this with me further, I am very happy to talk with you. It may help you to comprehend why our ethos and understanding of early years development offers pre-phonics awareness with the children. It is very important to scaffold a young child’s learning in this area in support of their next transition into reception class. By offering the Early Years child opportunities to develop good listening skills, rich language connected to their enquiries, develop their awareness of rhyme, see words for meaning on pages, play with 42 letter sounds, as well as develop turn-taking in conversation, we are promoting the most important factors of a child’s language and literacy early years development. Our ethos is to nurture this development, in preparation for a formal phonics programme at school: during the reception and year 1 years in the U.K.
Evidenced research of early years children highlights that it is the vital building blocks of language and literacy in Early Years which promotes a smooth transition to reading in the primary years. Greater outcomes in literacy in the long term alongside a continued love for reading are documented.
It appears there may have been some misunderstanding regards words used to describe our morning snack, I do apologise if you felt we stated breakfast. However, our morning snack is a very substantial and healthy snack and quite often, it can be a sufficient nutritional snack for those children who choose not to eat breakfast at home. Many parents inform us that their child may refuse breakfast at home, therefore we do ensure we offer sufficient of the snack to make up for missed breakfast at home. We call it morning snack because Childsplay does not open until 08:30 a.m. and most children begin their day at home from 06:00 a.m. they are usually ready for breakfast much earlier than their journey to Childsplay. Hopefully the menus you received will have helped you to note the healthy snacks and meals provided.
Sadly, for the short time you were with us, the ongoing pandemic prevented us from offering you the full Childsplay experience. Unfortunately, you didn’t have an opportunity to be involved in nursery events, parent and child workshops, parent open meetings and you were unable to spend time in the nursery with myself, staff, and other parents daily, it is a real shame that this occurred.
I don’t have a record of any formal complaint made by yourself; however, I would be available for a call if you are willing? Perhaps we will gain a better understanding on both parts, and I could help with any concerns you may have with regards to your child’s transition to school. It would be most useful for us to discuss this further; we endeavour to support children and their families in the best way we can within our pedagogical approach.
