Twyford nursery team ‘sleep rough’ for charity

Braving the cold and rain, a four member team from Cedar Park Day Nursery in Twyford ‘slept rough’ to help raise more than £12,000 so far for the Alzheimer’s Society, the UK’s leading dementia charity.

Emerging from sleeping bags on flattened cardboard boxes, the fund-raisers from the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ day nursery in Bridge Farm Road said the challenge had also highlighted the plight of the homeless at this time of the year.

Cedar Park Manager, Emma Kemp, and the team joined over 100 colleagues from sister day nurseries in the award-winning, employee owned Childbase Partnership, for the annual ‘Big Sleep Out’ fund-raising event.

“One cold, uncomfortable night is nothing compared with the good that can be achieved with the money raised. We all know someone who is living with dementia so whatever the night brings we are here until morning,” she said.

The Cedar Park Day Nursery team members were Emma, practitioners Marcus Hayward and Alice Blackman, and Deputy Manager Sarah Foster who said:

“We are always surprised by the level of support and generosity shown by colleagues, nursery parents and family and friends and want to say a ‘Big thank you from the Big Sleep Out’ to them all,” she said.

The Alzheimer’s Society has been adopted by Cedar Park Day Nursery for a year-long fund-raising to help the charity. Georgie Davies from Alzheimer’s Society’s fundraising team said:

“It’s incredible to see the team braving the cold January weather to show their support and raise money for the Society. The money raised by the ‘Big Sleep Out’ will help provide vital information and support for people affected by dementia.”
