How we learn through play at Green Park

Learning through play is a key component of our Philosophy at Green Park Day Nursery in Reading. We understand that children learn best when they are engaged in activities.

An example of this is our topic on Authors in Preschool. We are learning about the authors of ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’. The book is used as a point of reference to springboard learning.

We have explored the ‘swishy swashy grass’ in our grass reed garden areaand experienced ‘splash splosh river’ on a field trip to the water fountain. To listen to the ‘squelch squelch’ mud we use our mud tray, adding tools to make different sounds with metal spoons, tubs and colanders.

A teddy bear picnic with parents followed by a bear hunt helps allows children to practice sequencing and retell the story, embedding learning. This is how we learn through play.
