Diwali marked at Southall Day Nursery

Children, practitioners and families at Nursery on the Green Day Nursery in Southall are marking Diwali with a week-long programme of festivities and activities.

The Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery in Thorncliffe Road celebrated with a Diwali party where children enjoyed party games, traditional Indian food and henna designs on their hands.

Activities have included making and sharing Indian sweets, creating divas, exploring patterns in Rangoli design. They have also listened to traditional stories including learning about Rama and Sita.

Nursery Manager Dee Townsend said: “At Nursery on the Green we mark a range of different cultural and religious events throughout the year. This helps to give children a broad understanding of the world around them and celebrates the diversity within our local community.”

Diwali is one of the world’s largest religious celebrations which is marked in India and across the world. Also known as The Festival of Lights, the event symbolises the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil.
