Children at High Bank Day Nursery now have their very own ‘mini-farm’ to enjoy.
We have spent £10,000 improving our outdoor play area and building a farm area complete with calves, piglets, sheep, ducks and hens.
It comes as we prepare to mark our first year of being an Ofsted rated ‘outstanding’ early years provider.
The children can visit the animals via a secure walkway created between the playground and farm area. Hand washing facilities have also been installed so the children can interact with the animals, including collecting the eggs laid by the hens.
High Bank Day Nursery Owner Lesley Thompson said: “We are delighted to have been able to create a farm area just for the children.
“It brings an added dimension to being a farm-based nursery and the feedback we have received from parents has been excellent.
“Even though it has been a year since we were rated outstanding by Ofsted, we were determined not to rest on our laurels and making improvements to the outdoor play area and building the mini-farm area demonstrates our commitment to continually enhancing the learning experience for the children.
“It doesn’t stop there though because we are now in the process of creating a forest school which will provide the children with a hands-on learning experience in a natural environment.”
