The Wendy House Day Nursery scoops national award! Birmingham, UK. The Wendy House Day Nursery, located in Wythall and Lynwood, scooped a prestigious Nursery World award at a glittering ceremony on Saturday evening at The Brewery, London. The Nursery World awards, which shine a light on best practice in early years education and child care, recognised The Wendy House’s excellent contribution to pre-school education through its innovative Foundation Unit concept.
Foundation Unit is a fully structured pre-school environment with a strong learning and development ethos, within a private day nursery setting, which means busy working families have the certainty of full-time child care combined with a full-scale pre-school education, for a further year before they start school.
Thanks to the dedication of The Wendy House’s teaching team, the children in Foundation Unit are flourishing; as Ofsted observed earlier this year, “Children develop the essential skills for their future learning at school….children develop exceptional skills in early numeracy and literacy….they have excellent attitudes to learning…children make...exceptional progress from their starting points.”
The Wendy House was founded in 2007 by Victoria Vann, who started her career as a nursery nurse at the age of 16. Having worked in a range of child care environments Victoria wanted to create a nursery of her own that would reflect her exceptionally high standards and vision for a vibrant, stimulating environment where children can thrive and leave well-equipped with the skills they need for school. Victoria said, “Foundation Unit is something we are immensely proud of at The Wendy House and demonstrates that high quality pre-school education can be delivered in a nursery environment. Our dedicated team is committed to providing the best possible outcomes for all children and I am absolutely delighted that our achievements have been recognised in the Nursery World Awards.”
