Nottingham Day Nursery Churns Butter

The preschool children in Edwalton Day Nursery in Nottingham have been learning about dairy products and where they originate from.

The topic was inspired after breakfast time discussions about milk. The children were asked to identify other products that came from cows and that could be made from milk. They proceeded to make their very own butter, later enjoying it on crackers. The children also made chocolate bread using some of the dairy products that they had discussed.

Manager of the ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery, Sarah Johnson said:

“At Edwalton Day Nursery we promote child-initiated learning and the interest in dairy is one example of children showing a curiosity in a topic which has been further developed by nursery practitioners. Children have learned about food development processes as well as early maths and dialog skills through following recipes.”
