Winchester children celebrate World Book Day

Children at West Downs Day Nursery in Romsey Road, Winchester have been celebrating World Book Day with a range of different activities taking place.

A ‘Book Exchange’ has been set up to run all week allowing both children and parents to swap a book. Parents have also been invited into nursery to read their favourite story to children.

There have been plenty of themed activities taking place in the rooms. Preschool have been going on a Gruffalo Hunt whilst all age groups have been engaged by vivid and lively story telling by practitioners.

Nursery Manager Sarah Gibson explained: "World Book Day is an event which is celebrated annually at West Downs. Evidence has demonstrated that early exposure to books and stories helps to develop a lifelong love of reading and this is something that we are keen to promote here. Stories are brought to life through themed play and activities allowing children to have fun and engage in the plots in a proactive way."
